Sitting in on team auctions implies no knowledge of cricketing matters?
The "cricketing matters" here refers to context of betting and hence the cricketing matters here which are important are - team XI etc. The report only says he "was a part of CSK" viz. he can be tried as a franchisee owner/team principal.
Is that Hindu businesslike interview fake news?
No, the HBL is an actual interview. It is just not quoted in the Mugdal IPL probe report. Another important note, Meiyappan did not appear before the probe committee.

Let me TL;DR on the entire Meiyappan issue 1 - Meiyappan responsible for betting but doesn't find his involvement in match fixing 2 - Meiyappan was Team Principal/Owner of CSK 3 - Meiyappan was in touch with bookies and regularly placed bets both in favor and against CSK 4 - No conclusive evidence to say Meiyappan was involved in match/spot fixing 5 - Conflict of interest is an issue but no opinion on it by the committee but only a note to the SC As far as the title of the OP is concerned, it is 100% correct. The report clearly says that MS Dhoni said Meiyappan was ONLY a cricket enthusiast and had nothing to with cricketing affairs of CSK. The veracity of this statement is neither however not contested by the probe committee. This means, Dhoni's statement may be true or false.
Thank you. Dhoni is "technically" safe. But it is not possible for him to not know Meiyappan's role and he was clearly trying to cover it up. However the committee doesn't have anything that proves that to absolute certainty. Hence he won't be in any trouble. Just that if the Srini gang goes down he won't have people to protect him from 0-10 overseas losses.

So how many ICFers ll say anything against meyappan if they r in dhonis positions ?:hmmm: Except bulbul everone ll do what dhoni did

Let me state here that Dhoni is on a slippery slope here. The key word here is "cricketing matters" and we do not know what it alludes to. Note that Dhoni's statement has not been quoted by the report verbatim. I hope the meetings/interviews are recorded/taped. If so, Dhoni's statements in front of the committee should be revisited and quoted verbatim. This would open up a huge can of worms.

Here is the difference. Dhoni didn't say that I don't know what his role was. He said that I know what his role was and it was nothing more than of a cricket enthusiast which was found to be a lie.
That's true but the committee doesn't have any proof that shows that Dhoni knew Meiyappan's true role. Dhoni would argue that he was always given the impression that Meiyappan was just an enthusiast and with the team because he was a relative of the owners. Everyone knows that it's a cover up but unfortunately they were not able to prove it.

Obviously Dhoni is going to get away on one technicality or other. But what the report shows is India have a captain who lies to a Supreme Court appointed probe committee.
No, he won't. You just need to release the audio tapes of the conversation which I think is SOP. That will nail him.

so u are posting to hurt dhoni fanboys. :hysterical:
Yup, those who are so blind that they ignore facts. There are fans of dhoni who know what he did was done and call it.

I am not sure how that would help. The committee was unable to find anything that proves that Dhoni had any knowledge of Meiyappan's true role. He can always lie and say that he was kept in the dark. Probably that's what he said in the interview too.

Most of the people would avoid giving any material comment and say something like I am not sure what his role was. But dhoni's statement that I know he is nothing more than a cricket enthusiast clearly amounts to an effort to get g.m. out of the scanner. That's why it is shameful. Identical scenario. Person x is accused of murder. Witness Y says I testify that x was not at the crime scene at the time of murder. It was later found out that X very much was on crime scene though there was no proof if he really carried out the murder ? Do you think Y did no wrong? Didn't Y try to mislead course of justice from meeting its ends. The very fact that Indian captain tried to create impediments in unbiased fair probe by giving wrong statements itself is shameful.

The report also says that ICC Anti Corruption and Security Unit were "not forthcoming" to share information regarding match fixing allegations against other players. In addition, RK Singh who made the assertion that Home Ministry was stalling the case did not appear citing "lack of time".

Why should Dhoni alone suffer for CSK managements involvement in betting ?CSK as whole should be sacked. Let the supreme court act against all CSK guys involved in betting. We can hope all guilty will be sentenced appropriately.

The problem right now is Dhoni is on a slippery slope with related to the "cricketing matters" comment and the report doesn't quote him verbatim. If he has indeed lied, it will be recorded on tape. It can be a good case for contempt of court (probe?) plus setting off a new set of enquiry against Dhoni's "conflict of interest".

If he was lying to save the same CSK management, what are your thoughts on it?

If he was lying to save the same CSK management' date=' what are your thoughts on it?[/quote'] If it is proved that he was lying or that he was aware of this betting, then he obviously is guilty of hiding facts as such instances have to be bought up to the notice of relevant authorities. However, i think the punishment for not being involved in betting but hiding the information about it will attract lesser punishment.
