"We're bringing together a talented side. It comprises a good blend of experience and youth - all international, Indian and domestic players. The most important task is to make everyone feel like it's their own team. "According to me, the key to success this time around would be to make sure that the management, the captain and the coach understands each player and let every single individual be themselves. Also, the idea will be to train well in whatever way we can and try to perform to the best of our abilities."-KP

Kirsten leaves impact of non-retention on time http://www.indiancricketfans.com/showthread.php?t=309147&page=10 There has been a lot of talk about whether the decision of not retaining Virender Sehwag was justified, but Delhi Daredevils coach Gary Kirsten feels that irrespective how it pans out, that was the only way forward. "At the auction we made a decision to select a new squad and not retain anyone from last year. We are looking towards working with a new squad. Don't know whether it's a right decision or not but that's what we have gone for," Kirsten explained while giving a defensive logic when asked whether it's easier that there are no baggages of last year's failure. On the first day of Delhi Daredevils' practise with new captain Kevin Pietersen and new bunch of players, Kirsten emphasised on team bonding more than anything else. "Guys are looking forward to being together. Eight days before match, it is important time to connect. Started connecting and getting to know each other. Enjoy each other's company," the former India coach said after the session. For Kirsten, coaching in the IPL will be a completely different from what he has done with the Indian team in the past. "IPL requires a lot more intensity. It's a new challenge for me and I am looking forward to it. It's good to be back in India personally. I always knew that I was going to come back sometime. I love watching T20 cricket and haven't missed many matches," said the coach. He gave two monosyllabic responses of a 'yes' and a 'no' to two different questions. Asked if he would like to comment on the most common question on Yuvraj Singh, his response was a curt "No". "I will only answer questions on DD," he said. On whether he was happy with his pace bowling unit, he simply said, "Yes". Asked if the controversies and scandals of last year would affect this edition also, Kirsten said, "Unfortunately, it's been a part of the game and it's not a nice element. The game certainly needs to be cleaned up and whatever can be done to champion the cause of a cricket player." Questioned whether Kevin Pietersen's history with the English team did come to his mind when he was offered DD's captaincy, Kirsten straightaway waxed eloquent. "The feedback that I got from that management is that he has been an outstanding player and contributor to the team," said Kirsten. The coach also said that the team's strategy will change from game to game. "Strategy is not only going to be my idea. We will formulate different strategies. Gameplan and strategy will change from game to game," he said. He admitted that Daredevils' past seasons have been mixture of ups and downs, but said they were looking forward to having one of their better seasons this time around.

Special session for Nadeem and Rahul; Gary has Duminy in mind http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/sports/cricket/ipl/news/Special-session-for-Nadeem-and-Rahul-Gary-has-Duminy-in-mind/articleshow/33515067.cms It is now a known fact that Delhi Daredevils' spin department is one of the weakest among the eight teams playing in the seventh edition of the IPL and that was perhaps the reason why Shahbaz Nadeem and Rahul Sharma had 30-odd minutes of "spot bowling", on Wednesday. While coach Gary Kirsten and skipper Kevin Pietersen will publicly never admit it but an attack consisting of left-arm spinner Nadeem and leg-spinner Sharma is not only thin on quality but also on experience. May be that's the reason that on the first day of Delhi Daredevils' training session, they were the only two bowlers who faced 30 minutes of "spot bowling" even as the others retired to the cooler confines of the dressing room after a game of soccer and routine fielding drills. Both Nadeem and Rahul were taken to a centre net and told to pitch the ball on a spot that was marked by bowling coach Eric Simons. Both got a bit of applaud whenever they the pitched it on the "spot". However, it is still not sure whether both will be inducted into the playing XI in the same match. If one goes by coach Kirsten's words, then he has the option of seasoned JP Duminy in mind also as the senior Proteas left-hander regularly bowls his off-breaks in T20 internationals. Asked if they are a bit short on spin bowlers, Kirsten said, "I don't think we would want three specialist spinners. Two is enough and Duminy is a frontline spinner these days." Even when Pietersen spoke on Tuesday, he also showed a lot of confidence in Rahul Sharma's abilities. "We have Rahul, who has played for Pune and India. He is good," the skipper had said on Tuesday. Among the IPL franchises, Chennai Super Kings have two current India spinners -- Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja -- while Royal Challengers Bangalore have Muttiah Muralitharan, Mumbai Indians have Test specialist Pragyan Ojha, and Sunrisers Hyderabad have leggie Amit Mishra to name a few. The only team that is comparatively weaker is Kings XI Punjab, which only has part-time off-break Glenn Maxwell to look forward to.
