Excellent endorsement of a grossly underrated aspect of Sachin's career - his captaincy. Had to take over captaincy at a very young age with no grooming whatsoever (that concept itself never existed back then) - No good qualified supporting staff. And add to that Noel Davids, Dodda Ganeshs and Debang Gandhis to boot. What can a captain do with players like those? His batting record even when getting decimated overseas was brilliant.

This. And he almost led us to 2 overseas victories but for brain farts and poor umpiring. Had we won even 1 of those, I strongly believe that Sachin would have had a different story as a captain. Also, in his first stint he was pretty aggressive as a captain. Second stint was a bit like what dhoni is now, a tad lethargic..
