WC 2015 Team

I see comments in here that our ODI team is too slow or that we don't have enough hitters in the middle order. The world cup is going to be in Australia and NZ not in the subcontinent. If you look at every time India play ODI'S in Australia going back to the 03/04 tour, our batsmen struggle to put huge scores on the board. I think that it will be the same thing next year where unlike the recent series against Oz in India scores of 400 were possible, low scoring games will be much more common. Having players that are more technically sound like Rahane and Pujara (should be in the ODI team) is the right way to go. If the WC was in the subcontinent I would agree with the posters here that our ODI team should have more flair players. Having solidity in that middle is the best way to go i feel, rather than having stroke players capable of destroying attacks but also getting out ala Yuvraj, Raina, Yusuf. I just feel like some people are forgetting that the WC is in Australia.....not in India.

I agree. We have hitters and need 1 or 2 batsmen to complement them. Rahane, Pujara or Rayudu (2 out of the 3) will provide solidity to the batting and make sure we get a few partnerships going. Raina has been a very good ODI batsman but he has struggled in bouncy conditions. Yuvraj looked out of sorts against decent spinners and pacers recently.

Pujara is definitely required in Australian conditions.He seems to have the mental fortitude.

I totally agree that we need couple of solid batsmen team for WC15..However we are still lacking 1 genuine stroke maker... Rohit starts and plays too slow.. Most of his innings are 17 of 33, 11 of 28, 6 of 19 kind Guys like Rahane,Rohit, Pujara, Rayadu, Dhoni, Jadeja and Karthik take their sweet time to settle down.. Only Dhawan and Kohli are free flowing players.. We just one more aggressive guy in our lineup... Raina was playing that role but lately he has been out of form...

Ehh I dont know....... I do agree that Rohit needs to begin his innings faster, he seems to be making a habit of getting bogged down at the start of innings and I don't know if he has it in him to get in quickly and start hitting boundaries in the first 7-10 overs. I think we might need to switch the lineup around and have Rahane or Pujara opening and Sharma in the middle order. People seem to be most worried that if India are chasing a game and boundaries need to be cleared there is only Dhoni in the middle order, I think having Rohit in the middle order will help this. Also hopefully of one Rahane/Pujara can rotate the strike and get India off to more positive starts.

I think some people are expecting too much when they want a fast start like Sehwag or Sachin used to give. Its not that easy anymore because its a bit more tougher to score with 2 new balls from either end, especially in conditions like Aus, NZ, SA. Scoring about 65 runs in 15 overs without loss of wickets is a good start. Dhawan has the ability to play shots. Rohit can play the anchor role and doesnt need to score at strike rate of 80 up front. He has the shots to make up for it later on. I think they make a good opening pair and have done well in CT, West Indies tri series, Aus home series.

pujara if he can rotate strike, should come in. rohit should really be dropped because he cant pick up things as a finisher. he takes time to settle, more than others. so unfortunately, he wont be in my wc. i want guys like jadhav and m tiwary tried at 4/5. Rahane looks good, just that someone can always fill in if needed. I back rayudu to do well in one of the formats, might be test cricket he looks solid for it. put him at 5 in tests, take away from odis. My odi batsmen in wc 15 squad: pujara, dhawan, kohli, rahane, m tiwary, jadhav, dhoni, jadeja Mix of solidity, anchors, finishers, those who can keep scoreboard ticking from get-go

I have a feeling Yuvraj is going to make a sizzling comeback. He's only 31, so it's just a matter of him getting back into form. If he's in form, there's no better sight. Amen to that!

Honestly Yuvi hasn't seemed the same since recovering from cancer. I hope he comes back as the real Yuvraj Singh circa 2007 but the chances if that are slim.

Yeah but Rohit has been getting bogged down too much, the 1st ODI against SA he was 4 off 30 at one stage chasing over 300 putting everyone else under pressure leading to a collapse, he had multiple such innings against NZ. He should aim for a SR of between 40-60 if he is anchoring, getting 4 off 30 means he is keeping our runrate down like an anchor:haha:

The openers are the biggest headache in addition to the bowling woes. Neither Dhawan nor Sharma seem to be solid.They are confidence players. I dont think both together will be played at the WC.They aren't that consistent. Top Order: Dhawan/Rohit Pujara Kohli Middle Order: MSD, Rahane/KKD/Yuvi Jadeja Bowlers: Bhuvi , Shami Yadav/Aaron That leaves 2 positions:One for an seamer-all rounder and the other for a pure spinner both of which we don't have.I don't think Ashwin is an option. Maybe Pathan and somebody like Rasool? This lineup does seem short on explosive power though.
