"These are generally switched on and off as and when required. A radar may be kept on for 24 hours on certain days. I won't say that the Indian radars are highly sophisticated in the region," he said. Patni also said there are gaps in the coverage areas, including within the area being searched for the missing plane. He couldn't give an exact location for specific gaps, but said pilots are well aware of them. It will be extremely embarrassing for us if the jet is found close to our borders. zen
Blackbox emits ultrasonic signals when underwater. The S&R team should be able to pick the signals up if it is close by. The team has 20 odd days to locate the Blackbox before it stops sending out the signals Another theory is that the plane could have landed on a remote location (Coco Islands for e.g.). But hard to see such a huge plane landing and getting hidden w/o some kind of help from the authorities @ Roshan I am sure you would have checked the video by now. Interestingly, the theory was about the plane disappearing somewhere in the Far East

To be fair - Ind's technology in Andaman would be no better (if not worse) than Malaysia's. However, it was reported that China has leased the neighboring Coco Island from Burma and installed upgraded surveillance systems. So most likely something could have been tracked by them (unless the plane is hidden on Coco Island) From the quote, it is amusing to read that the radar gets switched on and off depending upon the need. Now, how are the authority on the Andaman going to figure out when the need would occur. It is not like danger (or enemy) is going to make an appointment Ironically, the most modern facilities are likely to be at Diego Garcia. From the confidence that US has shown, they probably have some kind of relatively reliable information

I am sure the Indian radar there is always on. The on off bit and patchy coverage is confusing. Anyway US has taken over and shown everyone who's boss. The chinese have been shown their place and India now looks like malaysia.
surajmal
False Flag by Chinese. From periphery of Andamans, probably crossed in Burma (which doesn't seem to have much surveillance capabilities I assume) and then into China. A precursor to justify their planned assault on Uighurs. Although I also wouldn't be surprised if the plane had been commandeered by some Paki trained jihadis (and had some indian targets in mind, what happens afterwards I leave to your imagination). Nonetheless, daal bahut kaali hai.

zen
This explains why the search is in the Andamans.... pic.twitter.com/yhvZEHqT9e Appears as if the guys on the plane knew where to look for gaps to go undetected by military radar. Considering that Andaman and Nicobar switch the surveillance/radar system on and off, the plane probably wanted to seek in through there (potentially to Diego Garcia) .... The guys on the plane were probably also trying to confuse the military radar by first heading towards Phuket and then turning towards the Anadamans. But could have broken through the area b/w Andaman and Sumatra (Indonesia) unless there is a hint of military presence there

Couple of years ago a chinese trawler was caught near the A&N Islands. http://www.hindustantimes.com/india-news/newdelhi/suspected-chinese-spy-ship-near-andamans/article1-739769.aspx and thats why they released pics of debris in the wrong direction and still are coming out with news of siesmic activity in the east of malaysia. this can so fit in. zen
No major leads today but interestingly the following report came from China: "Seafloor event": Chinese researchers say they recorded a "seafloor event" in waters around Malaysia and Vietnam about an hour and a half after the missing plane's last known contact. The event was recorded in a non-seismic region about 116 kilometers (72 miles) northeast of the plane's last confirmed location, the University of Science and Technology of China said. "Judging from the time and location of the two events, the seafloor event may have been caused by MH370 crashing into the sea," said a statement posted on the university's website. However, U.S. Geological Survey earthquake scientist Harley Benz said Friday that the event appeared to be consistent with a naturally occurring 2.7-magnitude earthquake It appears as if there are two lines of thinking: a) U.S. = plane flew to the west b) China (though not directly endorsed by its govt.) = plane remained in the east (based on the report above) c) Malaysia = LINK PS Other theories: * The plane may have landed * May be heading towards ME or Europe
