Where were you for the whole of the 1990s?
I was not watching cricket as I was born in 93 Still examples would help ..one comes to mind is chennai match even that I am not sure would count as dust bowl
Posted

chennai did not turned square but it was epic inning and wankhede ..i think we can agree it was good but if that track is bassis on which we wont rate abdv than ts problem of people not weakness of abdv

I was just giving examples of dustbowls - even Chennai 1998 vs Australia 155 was a very spin friendly wicket.
you can count them on one hand and this is for home grounds for a batsman who has played 200 tests almost 45 to 50 percent will be at home right ? and this is one of the greatest batsman of all time. do you think abdv is bad batsman of spin? his recent inning in uae was great against quality spin bowling on dry track and i am not even gonna count the easy ones ..is he complete player or no ?

Those were flat dry tracks in UAE, not dust bowls.

Those were flat dry tracks in UAE' date=' not dust bowls.[/quote'] they were not flat but obviously padosis will make you believe that ajmal never turns the ball big atleast i have never seen him do that ever and like i said for batsmen from outside subcontinent you get 2-3 dust bowls through out ur career so its hardly a base to judge a player does he play swing well now (there were questions before ) yep he plays pace well and easily played johnson on up and down track he also plays spin well and reads bowlers like ajmal from hand which many indian players struggled to do and normally plays spin aggressively by coming out of crease ..my point is he is hardly weak player of spin and obviously best of subcontinent batsmen will be better at spin but in same way i think ponting was much better against pure pace and bounce than any indian batsman but that does not make our batsmen worst does it ?

Smith made a double in those wickets. They were not a Chepauk or Eden Garden-esque wickets. I was actually responding to OP's claim about him being the best in the world, not the amends in his technical issues. Kohli has been a better match winner than him. He has played plenty of good knocks but considering him the best batsman, ATM, is quiet bleak. I would rather rate Warner as a better batsman right now.

smith played one of the best inning of his life there..it does not make it flat track i remember him fighting hard through out the innings and making lots of technical adjustment like using sweep lot more than usual and leaving lot more than he normally does it was lot morel ike cook inning than smith inning :cantstop: also warner as better batsman than abdv ? :WTF: what has he done out side the recent 2 series ? and what has he actually done in subcontinent even on tracks with no turn ? he is no where near best .. and about kohli being match winner..lets se how many he wins without dhoni backing him :winky: i will take kohli as odi batsman over him anyway but over all kohli is no where close to abdv

That's the way Smith bats. Even on the flattest wicket, his ugly technique makes a smooth inning look tough. After his 50-70 odd, he was cruising even against the likes of Ajmal. I am talking about winning games. Warner has easily been the best batsman in the last 6 months. I'm not saying he is better than AB. But currently, yes he is a better bat. As I said, its not about DeVillers overall performance but OP's claim of him being the best batsman right now. Which is not true.

how is warner even comparable to him in odis ? and in tests de veillers has not even failed in any series he has been great at both home and away consistently longer than warner and even in this current series i fail to see how warner out performed de villiers? heck i think smith has been better than warner easily! and for much longer time and has done well in much varied conditions :winky:

See, you are bringing up the overall performance yet again. I'm talking about the current scenario and what sort of ground shaking ODI performance has ABD played in these last 6-8 months? So, it all comes down to Test. Scoring 4 tons with a SR of over 84 as an opener is no joke against the best attack in the world. Calling him the best batsman in the world right now... is pretty weak.

you are really confusing meaning of best batsman currently and current form..we are not talking about who has batted beautifully in last 4 test match..if you want to include you can abdv has 100 or more score in every test series he has played starting from australia and innings like one he played against india . anyway point of this thread is not to compare performance in last 7 matches statistically its about finding some one who is more complete than him in world today...do u have any one in mind ? who is better than him across all three formats playing today ? i cannot think of anyone only kp comes to mind and he is out of side and failed in tests recently and has never been great odi batsman ... who else is there ? obviously some one will perform better here and there but there is not a single batsman near him who is as good as him in all three formats kohli might be better in odis but is no where close in t20 and tests dhoni same , amla as good in tests and until very recently odis but not great in t20 ... \just see op he made all these comparisons and this was his point to begin with.

tldr; we are not comparing current form we are debating who is best batsman currently playing across all 3 formats ..not just current form but best batsman.

KP hasn't been a lot consistent in his latter stage. Can't judge AB and Kohli based on T20I since we don't play a lot of it. In IPL, AB's a better bet but Kohli outplayed him last year. Kohli's the only guy right now who could compete with him. Has been developing himself as a very good Test bat as well. Few more years from now, we will see who is a better player. Although in ODIs Kohli>AB. May be wait for another 1-2 years to compare them both in Test cricket.

sorry but kohli is no where close to abdv at test level..there is not even a comparison compare him with faf or root (i am not saying they are better ) but abdv is at different level right now in tests from kohli who is only now starting to get runs in this format also maybe..and thats you being really hopeful that kohli will be as good in 2 years..but thread is about currently is abdv best batsman in world or no ?

Yeah, that's what I meant. Kohli is yet to be settled in Test cricket. And I am not being hopeful, the way he has been going, Kohli will be a sure competitor with AB in Test in the next 2 years. He still sucks at constructing an inning in Test compared to Pujara, which would eventually get better over the years. Root is nowhere near the class of Kohli. I believed he was, but he is not and he is still young. Faf and Kohli is a different thing altogether. To the last question. No, I don't think he is the best bat.

so who is better ?that is very simple question for me he is easily the best in world right now across three formats . TBH i cannot even think of any one else who is even doing decently enough all formats other than kohli and to some extent faf who has been ok in odis
