CG Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 You need to come in with some skills. We have burnt fingers with VRV singh who bowled at 140 plus but he was gun barrell straight. Ishant sharma is another guy who "wanted" to bowl 100 mph. Infact he did register good speeds . But that is when he was hurt the most. So i am not sure "pace is the first thing" you need. When you say pace 140 is also pace 145 is also pace. Former is Shami range. later is Varu aaron range. If you think we are going to eke out Mitchell Johnson that is not going to happen. Our fitness level will never match an Australia' date=' South African. If our guys strive for control and movement they go awry. Bowling skill should become second nature then you have to add more and more pace. I don't say come in as 120 k bowler and build pace. Bhuvan, Shami both can average 135 to 140k easily. Couple of yards with their skills can be good.[/quote'] Vrv singh was not 140+ at test level though he had decent pace and he bowled well in the test matches he got and he would have imporved had he not got injured.Isahtn sharma was at his best when he was 138-145ks and swinging the ball.Aaron ,yadav can be as quick as mitch . By pace we all mean decent pace avergae of 135ks in tests not odis and t20s with skills unless u got someboyd like yadav and aaron one of them has to play to be the x factor .

Among the bowlers SHami is the closest to what we are looking for. Decent pace, Bowling in good areas, unafraid to pitch it up, Decent control more importantly aggression and wicket taking mentality. Fitness is the only unknown area. But our slip fielders should lend more support along with kaptaan.
CG Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 We need guys who also have stamina to bowl though out a day and not have huge diff in pace in tests where your fitness is tested.Guys like munaf would bowl one spell at 138-140 and next at 125s even sree in eng one spell at 135 one at 125ks.Shami,yadav seem to be guys who can maintian intensity thorugh out a day in tests.
vvvslaxman Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Hope we find a left arm seamer who will bring in some variety.
CG Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Hope we find a left arm seamer who will bring in some variety. Yes shami,yadav + a left arm seamer who can swing it in {suyal is the one to look out for but he has had a poor ranji season }
rkt.india Posted March 11, 2014 Posted March 11, 2014 Hope we find a left arm seamer who will bring in some variety. By pace, I meant at least 85-87 mph consistently combined with skills of swing and seam. Less than that is not ideal. Shami is in this pace range and has some skills too but needs more accuracy.

You cannot take wickets unless you want to, unless you are desperate, unless your brain works rapidly towards it. When you have the mentality of making it as hard as possible for long periods everything will follow. Unfortunately sustaining the pressure.. that is an alien concept to almost all Indian bowlers. They bowl couple of peaches then there is a short and wide one or drift down the leg side. Shami has some room for improvement. But he is on right track so far. How long will he sustain. Nobody knows. All Indian pacers have very short shelf life because of their inability to make consistent progress.
ThePhenomenal1 Posted March 11, 2014 Author Posted March 11, 2014 get 3-4 fit, fast bowlers who can take wickets at any time. we run out of gas and it doesnt help that you have a useless ishant and aging, tiring zaheer on the other ends. should have shami, yadav and pandey as a base
