Like McLaren for SA & Stokes for England. We need it more than anyone considering the quality of our attack.

I hope people defending Ashwin realise that he averages nearly 75 (yes 75!) away from home.Lets face it ... India's spin cupboard right now is quite bare and there is no sign of that changing in the near future. Based on a 4 match sample!! Have you checked Ajmal's record for his early overseas tours? Even Murali averages 75 in Australia. Kumble had a mediocre away record in the 90s, averaging 90 during the 99 tour to Australia. It is tough for a SC bowler to take wickets outside the SC, they need to play matches and gain experience. If you drop them after four matches then you will never find a spinner who will learn to bowl these conditions.

You should refresh the history of Indian spinners. 3 years (10-15 tests) at least for overseas tours. No Indian spinner over the past twenty years has been successful outside India straightaway. Not even Kumble. Even at the end of a full career, Kumble ended up with averages of 38 in Australia, 41 in England, 40 in NZ, 42 in Pakistan and 44 in SL. Midway through his career, Kumble was far worse than this - in 2000, Kumble averaged 90 in Aus, 63 in Eng etc. Kumble's only success outside India was against SA who were well known for weakness against spin until recently. Whichever spinner you prefer, Ashwin or not, needs to be given a three to four year rope for bowling outside India. Otherwise you will never find a spinner who will bowl well in these conditions. Bowling outside India, perhaps the SC, is a big challenge for Indian spinners, and even our best spinners like Kumble took years to adapt themselves to these conditions. Occasionally, spinners like Harbhajan have stepped up outside India, and these occasional performances cannot be used as a benchmark for Indian spinners. Harbhajan averages 73 in Australia and 50 in England - not exactly what you can call great.
