Back up pace bowlers - disheartening.

While, it is very heartening to have 2 145+ kph bowlers in our first team - Sreesonic and RPS, it is heart-breaking to see the reserve pace bowlers in this edition of challengers..... each of them have the perfect attributes of a pace bowler.... built - min 6'2 -6'3 kinda height, athletic, broad shouldered and strong... trundling at 125 kph.... praveen kumar, pankaj singh, Bose, even Yo Mahesh, Munaf Patel, Joginder Sharma.Sid Trivedi, Gangandeep - the list goes on.... depressing... the only saving grace in this list of Nancies is Ishant Sharma.... this youngster is prolly the lankiest of em, but at 6'6, he run in and bowls 140 consistently.... atleast he has the heart of a man... the rest are jus built strong, they dont wanna strain themselves because there are plenty of easy wickets on offer as long as u maintain line and length.... WTH happened to promising fast bowlers like Nabi, VRV, Abu Nechim.... Yo has really fallen in pace from consistent 140+ bowling a year back....more because he has a lot of faults creeping into his action.... he is losing control and hence cutting down on speed...

Between Sree, RPS, Munaf, Zaheer, Pathan we've got atleast 3 good bowlers at any point in time. Munaf & Pathan may be Test & ODI specialists respectively. The other three can be used in either forms. This is as good, diverse and pacy an attack we've ever had.

dont lose hope in munaf by calling him a trundler, i bet he can bowl at 140kph even if you just wake him up and ask him to bowl. i have huge respect for this guy...i think he just needs good guidance....munaf along with rp are the only two bowlers in india right now who have the potential to be great on the world stage

Bumps, as I mentioned in the OP, the challengers was an opportunity to see who else is out there and that was disheartening to say the leasst..... btw, I disagree on Munaf...

Of the little i saw , FC cricket is ripe with boring 120+ medium pacers , who bully mediocre first class batsman and come into the national team. Only Ishant Sharma seems to have any sort of zip about him. For a 18 year old , he is already international material. I am certain he will get quicker as the time progresses.

even his bowling action is good where as bowlers like praveen amre remindz me of mohinder amarnath whoz action was like that of lazy person..

i have never been more perplexed than now watching these 6'3 athletic built youngsters like praveen kumar, yo mahesh, pankaj singh run in, not amble in mind you, and still clock only 125-130kph while a relatively frail built Aggy, Sreesanth, RPS clock 140+ comfortably with Sree and RPS pushing 150kph almost.... these guys need to spend time in the MRF pace foundation...

The guy has the wherewithals to be our best fast bowler ever, but has the attitude of a mouse. His ability combined with a Sreesanth type attitude can produce a devastating fast bowler. I cant believe how quickly he has vanished from the selectors's radar from being the permier fast bowler in WC 2007 to a no-namer now.

Munaf is a mystery.... He has taken a huge plunge from his debut days of 90 mph reverse inswinging yorkers.... i still remember tht tour match against england tht got him fast-tracked to make his debut in tht series.... he was unplayable... Atm, he is even behind Ishant Sharma in the pecking order... Ishant himself has some way to go, tht speaks about where munaf stands... he needs a mentor....

Does it have something to do with the MRF pace academy. I remember all the bowlers who go in to that place come out slower and seem to talk about "Line and length..." I remember Zak , Irfan, Munaf and the lot come in to the team bowling 140's and after a visit to the academy bowl 120's. Is it their logic of conserving themselves and being injury free.

since his comeback, Zak has been clocking 135+, touching 140 kph.... Both RPS and Sreesonic have openly given credit to MRF for their bowling and both are now touching 150kph after coming into the team at 135 kph... Personally, I feel, Lillee and Sekar are tops along with Cooley in terms of coaching fast bowling... Irfan Pathan is a changed man, clocking 135-140kph after his stint in MRF where he went through a total makeover.... Munaf's attitude was openly criticised by the Sekar himself... Guess, somethings have to come from within...

gator, i understand that all of them are products of the academy...my question is, there is always a dip in the speed of these fast bowlers at the end of their first, second season ....and i have heard ppl attribute the academy for the change.. I dont believe irfan spent all his time in the academy after he was dropped, and if i remember right, Zak came back after a wonderful county stint....Srinath, was never a 150 bowler after his 1st 2-3 years...i remember sri going to learn the leg cutter (or for him, the ball that goes straight on) and he never clocked 150 after that....the srinath i lived and watched was a consistent 135-140 bowler at best.I mean , everyone will give credit to an academy, but i dont know who else to point to for the dip in bowling speeds
