Last night i received a group email from someone i know (he would stand to gain a lot from hacking into my mail) with just the following link in the main body. http://velina.biz/modules/mod_articless/nbcnews.php The sender says his name followed by 'via shaw.ca'. Has anyone come across this? Normally i'd not care so much, i've seen similar before. I'm at serious odds with this guy in a business deal hence my suspicions. The idea his email decided to fire of an innocent piece of spam to my inbox at this critical time is too coincidental!

But If you have clicked that link, there is a possibility that your computer has been infected, so better run full scan using some good AV to see if there is any infection. But you dont have to worry about the sender though . Apparently this domain has hosted Rimecud.A trojan in the past. http://www.malwareurl.com/ns_listing.php?ip=83.222.131.30 You can run Microsoft safety scanner once just to make sure if there is any trojan. http://www.microsoft.com/security/portal/threat/encyclopedia/entry.aspx?Name=Trojan:Win32/Rimecud.A

Old guy Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Change password and I opened link on ipad and it loaded something in language I am not aware off Better clean cookies and scan ur computer with antivirus Just change password of email and do not own it from computer you think is infected for mean time

Most malwares are designed for windows and use vulnerability in windows. So it is safe to say you are mostly safe. Yet, better scan through the system with a good AV just to make sure. But you dont have to worry about the sender hacking your email id, unless he is intelligent enough to author a malware and exchange information using a command and control server.

Just search online how to do this; if you still can't do post the e-mail domain here. Redact the friend's e-mail ID for privacy purposes. Most likely this is a phishing attack based on your friend's e-mail ID. I don't think your friend's ID is hacked.
