They will do most to protect their house though and may (as a purely retaliatory gesture) resort to violence. Nothing like Raj T and his ilk. Marathi manus theory is the same kind of divisive, communal and dynasty politics which people decry at the central government but have no qualms in resorting to when it favors their community. Like I said earlier, right/wrong doesn't matter when it favors you; when it doesn't people will start crying foul and start quoting Socrates, Aristotle and Plato. I also think so. But I also wonder from where does the support base of Shiv Sena/MNS comes from (and they do have substantial support base as well as workers in/around Mumbai, Nasik etc).

Its nothing new.DMK has built their entire rule on this. As regards Maharashtrians being nice or bad, stop thinking in Black and White.
G_B_ Posted April 28, 2014 Posted April 28, 2014 Actually the shiv sena can find its roots in the textile workers of India. The chawls if you may will. Their core base is lower middle class marathi voters in the city of mumbai. In the alliance of the sena and the bjp in mumbai they bring the lower middle class/chawl marathi vote and the bjp bring in the gujarati and pan hindutva vote. The sena also provide the muscle and cadre on the ground for the coalition. Same for Konkan and Desh (nashik) and western maharashtra. While the BJP provide the muscle and cadre in marathwada and viderbha (eastern maha). Gopinath Munde (marathwada) and Gadkari (Viderbha) are two big BJP leaders from these regions. Long story short, shiv sena was slowly moving from being a marathi based party to a pan hindutva based mumbai party. But then Raj T split from the sena and he chose to go back to the marathi manoos philosophy. So the sena has to go back to the philosophy of marathi manoos. On the issue of violence. Mumbai has always been a violent city. The birth of the sena was basically pitch battles with the communist part of India. After the textile mills left mumbai for inland maharashtra and gujarat, high unemployment meant meant you were either commie or sena. The sena won that battle and wiped the communists out of mumbai. Litrally physically wiped them out. Plus i think anybody based in UP and Bihar should be the last one to complain about political parties with violence. Lets not forget the BSP had some really ugly anti baniya and obc slogans when it first started out. For all the violence the sena and mns remain less violent parties than somebody like the samajwadi, There is no difference between the sena and mns. One family will have father being part of sena and son being part of mns in mumbai.
