I hope Dhoni understands this simple fact. This is the reason we lost in NZ too. Our lead spinner Jadeja averaged 85 in tests. Our lead spinner Ashwin averaged 219 in ODIs. Our spinners have not been good enough to pick wickets overseas or given any semblance of belief that they can trouble batsman overseas if the pitch is not overly suiting them.

How about playing someone like Ojha? If nothing else, he can atleast keep things tight from one end which guys like Ashwin haven'et been able to do at all. Spinners, on foreign soil can come into picture in the 4th and 5th day and till that time they can atleast bowl economically.

Ojha is another bowler who needs help tracks. He is another one who does not put much revs on the ball. Containing could help if we had a Steyn or a Johnson who could run through batting line ups. So, we need all 4 bowlers to contribute in terms of wickets to win us a test. It is really difficult for spinners to come into play even on 4th and 5th day overseas, places like NZ or Australia or SA. You will have to be really good to make an impact even 4th and 5th day. We did play Bhajji and Mishra on last Englad tour and none made any impact. Ashwin could not make any impact on 5th day Wanderers track. Same way, Jaddu was useless in NZ. We can try Ojha but I do not see him doing much different.

When you negate the swing by standing out the crease or leave everything outside off he cannot do much. He neither has the pace or the bounce to push them back. Neither he can reverse it so he will be useful for 1st 10 overs of the day then he would be dead weight.

Since he is able to bring the ball back in too, I dont know how your leaving outside theory works. Plenty of players tried to move around their crease or come out this IPL, not a single one clicked against Bhuvi His pace as of now is enough to push batsmen back and he has bowled couple of killer bouncers this season I completely disagree with your assesment of him being useless after 10 overs. If he ccan pick death bowling skills after a few matches (when the same people called him only first 10 over specialist), I see no reason to believe why he would also not learn to bowl with the old ball. As if currently we have Wasim and Waqar in the middle order who are beasts with old ball. Only Shami is good with oold ball, no one else. In future, kuldeep yadav can be an answer to our overseas spinner problem. But as of now he has not played any first class matches.

Umesh is good too with old ball.

Personally I think Ojha would do well in England. NZ is basically the worst place for spinners to play. English pitches typically do take some turn. Do you guys remember Jeetan Patel, who played test cricket for NZ? His first class average in NZ was something like 45. He's currently playing 1st division county cricket for Warwickshire and is averaging around 28, and has been described by Ian Bell as the best spinner in England. The playing conditions are quite different over there. NZ is just not a good place for spinners.

People keep talking about pace of BK. I mean Praveen Kumar had much less pace than BK and he ended up being one of the best bowlers in the series when we got mauled 4-0 on our last trip. BK got natural swing. He should come good if our fielders support him. He will definitely need support from other bowlers but he should be the one who will take all those crucial wickets.
