The message from Modi and his team is that some technocrats who were in the running may have even “shot themselves in the foot” by being too vocal about their views on the shape of the next government, and who among the key appointees from the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government be given extensions. The understanding within ‘Team Modi’ is that interests with sizeable footprint in the outgoing UPA government were trying to find toeholds in the next government by putting forth the case for technocrats as Ministers of State. The BJP, however, is unwilling to accommodate these interests now that it has a majority of its own. Efforts, particularly where technocrats The leader also said Modi wasn’t somebody to get swayed by such lobbying, and in fact views it negatively. Modi hasn’t taken kindly to the incessant lobbying by MPs and some technocrats for themselves as well as for such key appointees of the previous government like Reserve Bank of India Governor Raghuram Rajan. With Maharashtra Assembly Elections in 4-5 months I would think that Munde won't even be in the running for Defense. As for Gen. VK Singh, I think he will get MoS at best.
