Texan
Well Sena is in no position to talk tough with BJP now. They also realize this. They might never again get a chance to come to power. In the state, yes. But BJP needs them in the center especially when it comes down to passing important bills in joint sessions of Parliament. Sachin=GOD
Well Sena is in no position to talk tough with BJP now. They also realize this. They might never again get a chance to come to power. Sena has been BJP's oldest ally and despite their differences, they have stuck with the BJP though thick and thin. And right now BJP doesn't have any leader capable of being CM without antagonizing some others so IMO it would be better to let Uddhav be CM. In the state' date=' yes. But BJP needs them in the center especially when it comes down to passing important bills in joint sessions of Parliament.[/quote']
G_B_
its just sabre rattling. They should have the allocations done by the end of the week, i think regardless of what happens the rule that sitting mlas in the mahayuti must not be upset. Along with defections like Datta Meghe etc thats about 110 seats already decided. Its a matter of close to 30 seats which needs to be ironed out. The way i would split it 145 sena 125 bjp and 18 others (18 others seemed to be nailed on)
G_B_
talks to resume today between sena and bjp these two alliances are like two married couples. Every time there is an election this happens. The only people who seem to make anything out of it are the press who print headlines like "xxx alliance on the rocks"
adi B
sena might make a case out for fighting on 160 seats after today's debacle. i think the best arrangement and which finally will be agreed upon should be a sena 146 bjp 123.bjp will win more %age of seats i am sure

G_B_
BJP bows before Shiv Sena, to contest 119 seats instead of 135 in Maharashtra elections Mumbai: After the seat-sharing controversy between the Shiv Sena and the Bharatiya Janata Party in Maharashtra, Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari met the Maharashtra BJP leaders in Mumbai on Wednesday night. The party leaders have bowed down to the Shiv Sena from the 135-seat demand and sent a list of 119 seats to the central leadership. http://ibnlive.in.com/news/bjp-bows-before-shiv-sena-to-contest-119-seats-instead-of-135-in-maharashtra-elections/499887-37-64.html 119 BJP 150 Sena and other rest..... I think all things considered its a good fit. There is a good chance the BJP will emerge as the biggest party in this combination. The reason being they are on a much firm footing in Viderbha than the sena in Mumbai. The bypoll defeats i think have resulted in the BJP lowering its expectations. G_B_
we should have an announcement in about 24 hours time. Apart from loksatta most other big outlets are reporting that the seat numbers are settled. Who contests what is being discussed. In other news MNS biggie Ram Kadam has defected to the BJP. This is a huge blow for Raj T.
G_B_
BJP appear to have made its mission to target MNS leaders in Nashik and Mumbai for defection..... Have to say long term the sena and mns need to come together. Either they will be eaten up by defections from their ranks to the BJP or they will be defeated by the Congress NCP combine. RedFever
Hope Marathi people realize and vote for BJP... Going alone in the assembly will be a death blow for SS. BJP is sure to do well in the urban areas and vidharbha. In case the alliance breaks, the question will be who will the smaller parties like RPI and SSS go with. RedFever
Both parties stand to lose big IMO. Yes, both parties will loose, but the loss for Sena will be more. BJP being a national party will definitely bounce bag. SS living under the false hope of winning 18 loksabha seats , when most of the people who voted must be for Modi. Malcolm Merlyn
SS has more to lose here.It was Modi which won them seats in Lok Sabha. And Btw which idiot compared Bal Thackrey to Modi?SS people are crazy.
G_B_
The thing is come rain or shine the NCP-Congress combine can get 35% of the vote on their own no problem. The BJP is on a firm footing in Viderbha and has a decent chance in Marathwada. But it is poor in western maha desh region konkan and mumbai. The BJP in mumbai is a Gujarati party. Not enough on its own to win seats. Gujjus probably will get them 4-5 seats. If the alliance does break the bjp will tie up with the mns. RPI SSS and other will go with the sena. It was Uddhav who brought them on board and is especially close to Ramdas Athawle. Then there is also the question of 22 seats in the central legislatures MPs. Its a big deficit if the bjp want to pass joint legislature. 119 BJP 150 SS and 19 others is probably a good fit. The reason being the sena and the congress will always need more seats than their alliance partners simply due to fighting on low margin mumbai seats. You can see the sena POV. At 135 seats each they are taking all the risk of mumbai regions which can be a lot more volatile and yet the BJP have the same number of seats. Its the same with the NCP and the Congress. The congress is taking all the risk of fighting in mumbai. NCP has the safe retreat of western maharashtra.
G_B_
The alliance won't break' date='aditya Thackeray just issued a statement .they'll formulate the seat distribution by tonight[/quote'] yup Aditya Thakarey is like half in love with Modi. lol he is probably fighting his father for the bjp. Dont get me wrong the rank and file Shiv sena cadre (and even MNS) love Narendra Modi. It will be a travesty to see the alliance break. Two like minded parties in many sense. Unlike the JD(u) the sena is probably a natural fit as a partner for the BJP.
