surajmal Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Periyar like reformist would have transformed the society in north which still mires itself in caste and religious divides just like he did in TN. And TN is one of the most religiosly peaceful and socially developed state in India becoz of the foundations of Periyar and Kamaraj. So saying Periyar would have incited riots only shows the RSS Mayavathis and Imams incited mentality Partly, TN is peaceful because of Geography. It is economically better off than Rest of India, because of a head start. (which circles back to the geography plus point) And the incremental economic betterment that it has achieved/been achieving since 47 has added to the peace between caste groups to the point that caste lines have been rendered irrelevant. Same thing will happen in the north, eventually. Not because of some reformer but economics.

surajmal Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Because Indian middle class always loves freebies:cantstop: Not saying we dont have problems or poverty but we still are easily one of the most well off states both economically and socially in India. And Periyar is one of the biggest reason for that. And tracking Iyer's elitist attitude to Periyar or Dravidan culture reeks of ignorance Periyar was a demagogue looking to flip the existing power structure. Nothing more. Infact he is a perfect illustration of Fox and sour grapes fable. I shouldn't have to tell you his story; guy went to Kashi to become an ascetic. Achieved zilch. Or perhaps, some guru/sadhu refused to take him under his wing. Came back as an angry young man (in his middle age) and decided to throw tantrums.
surajmal Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 wasn't periyar the same guy who burned pictures of rama and krishna? That and more. While rest of India was fighting for independence from the goras, he was on an anti North crusade.
FischerTal Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 That and more. While rest of India was fighting for independence from the goras' date=' He was on an anti North crusade.[/quote'] AFAIK, that was done because he thought Rama and Krishna were Aryan gods that oppressed dravidian shudras, which is quite laughable. I'm not expert on south politics but if thats true, i don't see how such a person can be seen as an unifying force
kubrickian Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Congress is a regressive, dynastic, pseudo secular, pseudo liberal party. The sooner it goes away, the better for India.
surajmal Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 AFAIK' date=' that was done because he thought Rama and Krishna were Aryan gods that oppressed dravidian shudras, which is quite laughable. I'm not expert on south politics but if thats true, i don't see how such a person can be seen as an unifying force[/quote'] So someone who championed rationalism over dogma, used half baked racial literature (read: colonial propaganda) to back his greater agenda. Hypocrite much?
BeautifulGame Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 AFAIK' date=' that was done because he thought Rama and Krishna were Aryan gods that oppressed dravidian shudras, which is quite laughable. I'm not expert on south politics but if thats true, i don't see how such a person can be seen as an unifying force[/quote'] He was a highly devoted Hindu in his early years .Infact his pilgrimage to Kasi was what changed him. His issues were with discrimination against Woman rights oppression of lower castes and self respect movement and those who were fooling people in the name of God. Problem was that all of these were practiced under the name of religion and God.So his reformism started with Athiesm and denouncing gods and more importantly those preaching religion and discrimination via it.
BeautifulGame Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 That and more. While rest of India was fighting for independence from the goras' date=' he was on an anti North crusade.[/quote'] So fighting for women's right against oppression and for self respect is north India crusade.
straighttalk Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 As i said in another thread he is one of symbolic reasons why Congress is in the position they are in today. What exactly is his qualification to be a politician apart from being Rajiv Gandhi's friend.Yet he contests election time after time .He isnt even fit to talk about democracy and elections dude have u ever heard of freedom of speech. you are sitting here passing judgement about democracy. i think aiyar is entitled enough for that. he has an opinion..lamblast him. do you think all bjp mps are qualified? Are they going through primary. there is no problem with congress other than rahul gandhi as he is not fit to be a leader and his IQ is pretty low.
surajmal Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 So fighting for women's right against oppression and for self respect is north India crusade. Women's "rights" in India, still, are only nominal in nature for the large majority. And if you start your own battle while there is a greater war going on, you are merely a child seeking attention.
straighttalk Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 Congress is a regressive' date=' dynastic, pseudo secular, pseudo liberal party. The sooner it goes away, the better for India.[/quote'] BJP is a fascist communal party that uses riots to come to power and then answers to RSS and Ambanis and Adanis. Democracy is a fight of opinion. It is for people to decide what they choose. No one is going away. 10 years later...Congress will have an equally thumping victory.

surajmal Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 So fighting for women's right is child seeking attention :two_thumbs_up: Right, because that is what I meant. And Periyar went to Kashi to figure out ways to free women.
BeautifulGame Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 again i don't know too much about his movement, so ill take ur word for it :nice: and sit back while you and surajmal argue Periyar is a very controversial figure. No one even in Tamil Nadu agress with his every principle. He called the August 15 1947 the darkest day in India - Which was heavily criticized by most included Annadurai his most devoted follower. Also he was staunchly against socialist people entering politics to change society through power. He believed politics and power only corrupts people and cant do any good. And thats why DMK was formed to contest elections spliting form Periyar. But no one not even his staunch crictics could deny his importance anc contributions to TN.Periyar and Kamaraj are the 2 main reason why we are well developing both socially and economically than most parts of India
bulbul Posted May 18, 2014 Posted May 18, 2014 No Tharoor congratulated Modi first. The language also makes it pretty clear but before hell breaks loose here as the tweets with the time stamps. 425PM ShashiTharoor: Still touring my constituency to thank party workers, but before it's too late, congratulations @NarendraModi &BJP on an astonishing victory 754PM narendramodi: @ShashiTharoor Many thanks. Congratulations for your victory as well. Lets work together to create a better India! The OP mentioned "Congress leader" and considering the congress leader I am talking about is the PM of the country that is a gracious congratulatory message. Do not let your allegiance get in the way of accepting grace. hmmmm..I didn't heard what Shashi said in TV I guess. As I already said MMS don't have any power in Con party & we all know about his classiness. Question here is about the Sonia & Rahul, party high command, not a single word about Modi & BJP.May be we have to think that no negative words from them is itself a big compliment :--D
