They are pricier because they use better materials, are better engineered(not necessarily for our roads), have more attention to detail etc. Someone who compares the A class to a Honda accord hasnt really understood the concept of luxury.

If you add all the bells and whistles in the Accord, you're going to get it under the base price of the C-class stripped. On top of that, Accord is more spacious with higher safety ratting. This brings me back to my previous argument. If you really want luxury cars, you need to look into their second tier options.

Detonator Posted June 4, 2014 Author Posted June 4, 2014 Volvo S60 just surprised me. It's better than both C class and 3 series. Be it the comfort while driving or the equipments, Volvo just beats both. The only thing I don't like is the steering, I literally feel like driving a bus, the car doesn't turn easily. I almost bumped a bike guy during test drive. :mad:

If you want to find a difference between a civic or camry and 3 series or C class, just open the bonnet. BMW and Mercedes are just masters of perfection and attention to detail. Having said that, their hatches aren't on par with the similar prized sedans. Merc I can understand, but I didn't expect this from BMW.

On the first impression, be it the comfy, power, ewquipments, quality wise, the skoda octavia or a passat are on par with the A-class and 1 series and the lower end audis in diesel. In petrol, the Nissan Teana and the Camry totally owns the similar priced lower end mercs, bmws and the audis hatches/crossovers. Only thing is that the Germans finish the cars well, but nothing else. However, their sedans are awesome and incomparable with nissans, hondas and toyotas but hatches and crossovers are strictly average. Makes me wonder why they abuse the status and fan following they have.

But definitely not worldwide. A compact sedan like the 3 series, A4, etc definitely have their place in the market as compact fun to drive sedans. Unfortunately we in India are conditioned to think only in terms of price.. which is why people compare the 3 series with the camry/accord/superb.

If you DO want to compare these cars do it with cars of a similar size, compare the A class with the i20 or similar. My point here is that the C class is a luxury item, and isnt meant to sold on price. The accord is a bigger car, with more horsepower, with more torque and bigger wheels and all that jazz. My point is that all this doesnt matter in a luxury vs non luxury comparison. Hence the gshock vs omega seamaster comparison. What keeps better time? - G shock What is more water resistant? - G shock What is easier to read - G shock What has more features/functions - G shock. So which one should you buy? Do you see how ridiculous a luxury vs non luxury comparison is? So in actuality, the 3 series etc definitely has its place in the world market as a fun to drive sedan, not big on space but big on driving fun. If it has a rival, it would be the mazda 3, or the impreza or some similar car. You cannot just compare 2 cars from a different segment on price. Neither can u say that the 3 series and the C class are not luxury cars. They are, for people who want to buy a small compact sedan. (Bigger = better is not always true, not least in europe where these companies are headquartered.) Now, all of the above stands true for the world market. The indian market is very immature.. people just buy the 3 series over the Skoda superb, and then sit in the cramped back seat like idiots. But the 3 series and c class etc are real valid luxury cars. I've got so many friends in the US who use these cars who DONT WANT big ass cars like the 5 and the 7 even when they can afford it. We sitting in India sometimes dont understand this.

Only the 4th gen rich and the politicians doens't care about spending since they never knew the value and go for the logo. The 1st and 2nd gen successful business men and the working class knew the value of money and every paisa is hard earned. Obviously they wanted a better value for money. You can't compare it with the much developed part of the world.

Yes, it indeed feels weird, something like Ashok Layland 1.8 TDI MT. :cantstop: I liked the logo too. Very catchy. The look is also good. I can spot many cars here, more than the 3 series or C class. Only A4 has sold in big numbers relatively.
