amiret Posted March 16, 2015 Posted March 16, 2015 Strange logic you have. Congress opposed the hike to 49% when it was proposed by Yashwant Sinha during the Vajpayee regime' date=' because of Congress it was limited to 26%.[/quote'] Perhaps i did not make it clear. Yashwant Sinha never proposed 49% in 1999. It was never part of the IRDA Bill 1999 that was tabled . The Standing comittee recommendation itself capped it at 26%. The recommendations of the committee are not binding. Forget 49% . Even 26% was not supported by BJP's allies in Parliament . RSS and it's wings BMS and SMJ were vehemently opposed to ANY foreign investment. Even BJP members of parliament were opposed to it in late 1998. There are many other such articles from that time-period that bring more perspective and context to that incomplete timeline.

The priority for the Vajpayee govt was to initiate the insurance reform so they settled for 26% in face of opposition to 49% by the Congress. ....... Khalpat Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Waste paper to phone use: Govt revives checklist against leaks *Don’t throw secret papers into waste paper baskets. Tear such papers into small bits and ensure that all the waste papers from your room are collected and burnt before shutting up. *Don’t fully close the doors of safes, cabinets of cupboards unless they are locked. A closed safe may give the impression that it is locked while actually it is not. *Don’t discuss secret subjects on the phone which is a public service. These are some of the 26 instructions on a “confidential” list revived by the NDA government to “safeguard information” and “secure government property and premises” following the alleged leak of official documents from various ministries. The list is part of a “re-sensitisation” drive launched by the government following a meeting chaired by Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth in the last week of February of officials from the ministries under the scanner. As part of this drive, the government is making detailed presentations on the Manual of Departmental Security Instructions 1994 for its senior officers. Along with the manual, which has been revised several times over the years, the two-page list of Dos and Don’ts —- part of the official security protocol for long —- is being circulated among section officers. “Though used for training purposes —- for example, by the Postal department and the Defence Headquarters Training Institute during the UPA regime —- these archaic rules were always considered either too obvious or rather impractical. Now the government is serious about full compliance,” said a senior bureaucrat, who did not wish to be identified. While CISF personnel have already taken over the security of most ministerial premises, where additional CCTV cameras are being installed, the government has barred entry to those without ID cards or prior appointments with joint secretary-level officers and above. Under the new security regime, all files have to be routed through the e-filing system and the divisional heads need to get the “security and character antecedent verification of outsourced staff as well as manpower deployed by service providing agencies in their buildings done… on priority basis.” Burning “all security waste papers… daily under adequate supervision” seems to remain the top priority of the government as this figures under both Dos and Don’ts on the “confidential” list. The government this month widened an investigation into suspected leaks of confidential documents from the oil ministry to include the defence, coal, environment and power ministries. The scandal erupted in February with the arrest of junior staff suspected of stealing secret documents and selling them to consultants. http://indianexpress.com/article/india/india-others/waste-paper-to-phone-use-govt-revives-checklist-against-leaks/?SocialMedia
amiret Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 Good to see that things have changed and the Prime Minister has tweeted his deep concern. " The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi is deeply concerned about the incidents in Hisar, Haryana and Nadia, West Bengal. the PMO tweeted." Earlier MMS would only express deep concern without Tweeting.
Khalpat Posted March 17, 2015 Posted March 17, 2015 It seems now for state governments , this stereotyping of Modi government by the Adarsh Liberals has come as a ray of hope to hide their impotency and poor governance. You have whole state machineries, police , law and order with you. Grab the culprits , put them behind bar use the CID bring the evidence of the master mind of those who are doing any conspiracy or trying to do communalization. But ofcourse how can we do that? We will have to work strenghten the police, the CB CID, bring technology, Isme Maja kahan hai, niether the TRP of media nor the secular jaahils will find something to write on internet and more so who will vote for us if we will not show the fear against the present government.

There have also been reports for a long time now of her becoming too arrogant and taking decisions without consulting the relevant people hence creating lots of conflicts with senior people in IITs/IIMs. She should be sacked or transferred as Minister of State under a senior leader to learn how to run a department before being given such an important ministry. But I don't expect that too happen.
amiret Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Good to see that modiji is focusing on important problems facing the Nation, like the scarcity of good Govt approved photographs. To provide for the increasing demand for "good pictures" of ministers in events, the government has decided to organise quarterly training programmes for existing photographers. While there are 40 photographers in the Photo Division who cover everyday events, plans are afoot to expand the team, said Bimal Julka, secretary at the I&B ministry . "It was the PM's idea to revamp the Photo Division and make our pic and make our pictures more interesting. We are upgrading the department so that photographers switch over from outdated technology," he said. While the two dedicated photographers assigned to PM's events have been trained, the other photographers have been told to click not just pictures of ministers and guests on the stage, but also of their interactions with audience. The process was quite simple when UPA was in power: click pictures and file them by evening, said a cameraman. "But now, PM's and other pictures are sent to the PMO, cleared and uploaded in the next few minutes. Initially they would want just two pictures of an event, but now they want at least 20." TOI : LINK hilarious comment by an infuriated reader: " modi is behaving like a giddy Miss India contest winner. Nobody gives a dam about your photos ,selfies or your 56 inch silicon implants. Stop wasting time and money of the Nation and do some real work for a change Mr.Karma-Dhongi. True Karmayogis don't need PR agents and Publicists . Swami Vivekananda , Bhagat Singh ,Tilak , Sardar Patel would not have been wasting time on photos, selfies, tweets and Instagram ." :haha:
seedhi Posted March 20, 2015 Posted March 20, 2015 Good to see Narendra Modi govt pursuing and passing reform measures in face of opposition from Sonia led Congress party. Can trust the BJP to keep national interest at higher pedestal than other parties. Big Boost for Government's Reform Agenda: Coal and Mines Bills Passed by Rajya Sabha Bills to Auction Mines, Cancelled Coal Blocks Passed in Rajya Sabha New Delhi: Hours before Parliament breaks for a month-long recess in the Budget session, the Mines and Minerals Bill and the Coal Mines Bill were passed by the Rajya Sabha, with the government managing to swing the support of some opposition parties. The mines bill, part of key reforms in the government's economic agenda, seeks to introduce a system of auction for mines that supply minerals like iron ore and bauxite. Parliament's approval is a thumbs-up for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's bid to kickstart an industry that has languished for years. 117 members of the Upper House voted for the Bill today, 69 voted against. Two abstained. Minutes before passing the Bill, the House voted down a proposal by the Left that it be sent to a Parliamentary committee again for review. The Coal Bill, which opens the sector for commercial mining and seeks to facilitate the auction of over 200 cancelled coal blocks, was also passed by the Rajya Sabha today. The bill was by division -- 107 lawmakers voted for it and 69 against. The Mines Bill will now be taken up by the Lok Sabha, where the BJP-led government enjoys an overwhelming majority. The government is in abject minority in the Rajya Sabha and needs the help of Opposition parties to pass bills. The Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, Bahujan Samaj Party and Nationalist Congress Party voted on the government's side. The Janata Dal (United) walked out. The Congress and the Left voted against the Mines Bill. The break in Opposition unity appears to be a result of the increased revenue that state governments will mop up after the bill is passed. The parties that supported the Mines Bill today had marched on Tuesday along with the Congress and the Left to protest against the government's other key reform, the land acquisition bill. Later, Union finance minister Arun Jaitley said, "The Congress was obstructing for the sake of causing obstruction." Regarding the land bill, he said the council of ministers will take a view on it, "there is no dejection." Like the land bill, the mines bill and coal bill ratify an ordinance or temporary executive order that will lapse on April 5. Another key reform, the Insurance Bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha with the support of the Congress. http://www.ndtv.com/india-news/bill-to-auction-mines-passed-in-rajya-sabha-748223?pfrom=home-lateststories Great going, respite from the pathetic UPA led by the slavish doormat Manmohan.
G_B_ Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 BJP is getting closer to AIADMK and BJD. These two are either abstaining or voting with the government. Together these two have 74 members or about 10% of both houses. Crucially 18 votes in the Rajya sabha. The NCP as well with their 12 members i feel will abstain against voting the BJP on most bills. I think the land bill might be a bridge too far. But with the AIADMK voting for the bill and the BJP NCP/Shiv sena etc abstaining they have the numbers in a joint session if it comes down to it. Jaitley must be given credit for all of this. He has managed the floor very well in the Rajya sabha. Exiting times ahead for India and its economy. Can see Insurance Bill, Mining and Coal bills adding about 1.5-2% to the GDP growth and creating plenty of jobs.
G_B_ Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Politically it also bodes well for the BJP. Despite the Modi wave the BJP came third in Orissa behind the congress in terms of vote share in the assembly and the lok sabha elections. I dont think BJD see the BJP as their major challenger. They see the congress still as a threat in the state. AIADMK as well.I doubt they see the BJP as a threat to them in TN. That means that even if the BJP drops down to about 200 seats for the next elections, they will be in a position to form government (a much weaker government) with a series of parties such as existing NDA members and BJD and AIADMK, the combo of which will bring close to 40 seats at least. TRS is another party which appears to be ok with allying with the BJP.
amiret Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 LINK Mr. Gadkari makes a strange declaration : NEW DELHI: Union minister Nitin Gadkari appeared in a court here on Saturday in connection with a defamation case he had filed against Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal. Gadkari, who appeared before Metropolitan Magistrate Gomati Manocha, was cross-examined by Kejriwal's counsel who asked him various questions related to association with Nagpur-based Purti Sakhar Karkhana Ltd. Gadkari told the court that he was not a businessman and has been associated with co-operative initiatives and charitable trusts. it is strange for honorable Union Minister Gadkari to inform the Court that he is NOT a businessman. Perhaps he has just been a Social worker for most of his life.
Clarke Posted March 25, 2015 Posted March 25, 2015 India Votes With Pakistan, Saudi Arabia to Block Gay Rights at UN India was among 43 countries that voted on Tuesday against benefits for same sex couples working for the UN by backing a Russian-drafted resolution. The foreign ministry today justified India's stand saying countries were "not consulted" on the plan. The resolution was defeated with 80 nations rejecting it and 37 countries abstaining, which means the UN can now extend benefits to partners of gay employees. The idea was proposed by UN Secy Gen Ban Ki Moon last July. In voting against gay rights, India has joined socially conservative countries like Saudi Arabia, China, Iran, Egypt, Pakistan, and Syria. Foreign ministry officials say India's only option was to vote in favour of the Russian resolution since homosexuality is a crime in the country. In 2013, the Supreme Court had reinstated a colonial era ban on gay sex in India, and left it to Parliament to change the law. Several groups have petitioned against it. "The UN had as of until recently a system whereby they would decide on benefits for partners or spouses depending on the law of the country from where individual hailed. Then the UN Secretary General changed it of his own accord. Our objection was against the change by the secretariat without consulting countries," said a ministry spokesperson. Under a new policy in place since June, the UN recognizes same-sex couples married in a country where it is legal, regardless of their nationality. The foreign ministry said, "It's a complex issue of if nationals are governed by national laws or governed by others." The US has said the "vote should never have happened" as it sets a dangerous precedent in challenging the UN Secretary-General's authority to make administrative decisions and also reflects hostility to gay rights. http://www.ndtv.com/india-news/india-supports-russian-resolution-against-gay-rights-at-un-749457 Couldn't they just abstain from the vote, look at the esteemed company of nations
