kablooee87 Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 In the series preview thread, I mentioned that a lot of Pakistan's recent ODI wins can be attributed to Afridi's bowling. But he had a very bad record against India and that may well be the diff. It hasn't been the only difference, but a big one imo.

He hasnt got them the breakthroughs in the ODIs like he has against other teams.

As far as i can remember, Pak have lost every ODI series since that fateful tour to England. (May be with the exception of the Pak-WI series)

kablooee87 Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 Sheesh, you guys need to start reading a bit more carefully. I never said Pakistan have won a lot of games. I said of the games we have won, a lot can be attributed to Afridi.
MundaPakistani Posted November 15, 2007 Posted November 15, 2007 I think the reason why IND bat so well against Afridi is because they have faced Kumble in nets for the last 15 years and Afridi is just a poor man's kumble.
chanakya Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 india didnt fare well against Hogg earlier, I think the major difference is in fielding which australia produces and the rest do to back up their spinners.
MundaPakistani Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 india didnt fare well against Hogg earlier' date=' I think the major difference is in fielding which australia produces and the rest do to back up their spinners.[/quote'] Not really.Fielding is always poor yet Afridi has been quite succesful in the last 4 or 5 years. Hogg is a)a totally different bowler b) he is simply better than Afridi.
Mr. Wicket Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 MP, to contest b), what are Afridi's bowling records in first class and test cricket?
MundaPakistani Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 MP' date=' to contest b), what are Afridi's bowling records in first class and test cricket?[/quote'] Tests 26 45 3092 1640 47 5/52 34.89 3.18 65.7 1st class 96 11463 5958 216 6/101 27.58 3.11 53.0 p.s Don't read too much in to the 1st class record of any PAK cricketer.
PaiN_KiLLeR Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 I've noticed one thing about Afridi's bowling, he has stopped bowling his quicker delivery (which often touched speeds of 75 mph)... it has earned him so many wickets in the past.
Mr. Wicket Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Still FAR more impressive than Hogg's numbers in either form! Hogg's a fine ODI bowler, but not a first class bowler by any stretch of the imagination. This, lest we forget, is a man who played Zimbabwe on a turning pitch at the Sydney Cricket Ground a few years ago... and then got comprehensively out bowled by SIMON FRIGGING KATICH. One who made his debut on a cracked turner at the Kotla in 1996 where the ball spin a mile on day 1 before lunch, and still couldn't do anything to the Indian batsmen. A better ODI bowler than Afridi (although with Afridi's volatile hitting, I'd pick him ahead of Hogg in the side), but not a better test or f/c bowler.
King Posted November 16, 2007 Posted November 16, 2007 Afridi is an extremely over rated cricketer. At best he is a slogger and someone that can bowl a bit. There must be 100 more cricketers in Pakistan that can do this role. Just that PCB is obsessed with Afridi that's about it. If he played for any other country he wouldn't have made so many come backs.
