Smaller ones and clinics always go with generic. There are several generic companies in Mumbai where the expired ones are repacked with new updated dates. I have seen in pune and mumbai where the mediacal shops give u expired ones intentionaly and if questioned, they will act like it's a geniune mistake. A few yrs ago, in coimbatore police set fire on tons of expired drugs, came illegally from mumbai companies. There is strict inspection in every hospital every 2 months. I guess in chennai and bangalore, there is a dedicated team to find out these activites.

Many big hospitals which are headed by doctors themselves usually refrain from hefty deals with a single pharma company for petty perks. Some hospitals are headed by businessmen are the culprits, don't want to name them, the hospital starting with J in pune and the hospital chain starting with L based on chennai are notorious for brand based prescriptions. Such hospitals which have rules to buy medicines in their own pharma.
