We had lost 4-0 in two consecutive overseas series' - I think that would have been reason enough for the selectors to want M out. In 14 innings he played in those 2 series', he made 322 runs - so his batting also wasn't good by any means. Seeing all these factors I believe Amarnath was telling the truth.

Ravi Shashtri appointed director for the India-Eng series So, this is what led to Shastri's defense of the team compared to others who were critical of the performance. He wants the team to show their mettle and 'penance' in the ODIs instead of tests! 'Move on we must', he says.
