Ravi Shashtri appointed director for the India-Eng series So, this is what led to Shastri's defense of the team compared to others who were critical of the performance. He wants the team to show their mettle and 'penance' in the ODIs instead of tests! 'Move on we must', he says. Just as we have been moving on for the past three of four years after every series abroad.
Last 3-4 years? He also said in commentary that this will continue for the next 3-4 years, because of young, youth, inexperience blah blah

Was amarnath on this tour or had anything to do with it?:giggle: No So stop hammering the poor fella:giggle:
Common KT, I was talking about what he said in 2012 because his name was taken in the discussion. I liked Jimmy very much as a player.

What was he supposed to say? You lost the Test series, lose the ODI series too and wait to show your mettle & penance on the next Test tour?!!

He is there to give proper insights in to the plight and give proper opinions on what changes are necessary. Not some rosy delusional analyse

It's not either/or - he can do both. He didn't boost the morale of the fans but the players. Also, I would like to read the entire column before making a comment on whether he didn't give insights or not. IF he didn't, then fair enough he should. But, I don't see why he shouldn't write a moral boosting comment or two in his column about the team.

Just too obvious and cant believe you cant see this

That might well be a possibility - I don't ignore it, I am skeptical.

If you are blaming Dhoni (or Kohli or Tendulkar) for not curing cancer, I will defend them. I am out here for Dhoni as a captain in Tests/ODIs/T20Is (and out of the T20I team at least) but then some people (not you) have an agenda and start snow balling batsh!t kaanspiracy theories. I Here are some other things Amarnath said 1. Dhoni didn't deserve spot in Test side, Sehwag did though somehow 2. Dhoni doesn't deserve to play for India 3. Gambhir is a good option to lead India 4. Amarnath wasn't interested in selection after the tri-series but continued in the same position for 7 months 5. Selectors aren't responsible for the losses in England and Australia 6. He wanted new captain in all the formats of the game, not just Tests 7. A couple of days before he said, Dhoni is a great asset for the ODI team.
Many of those points are his own opinions, not other selectors. But if Dhoni was indeed removed by the whole committee then Srinivasan should not have blocked it. Do you agree to that? If your problem is only trusting Amarnath then I can't make you trust him. Personally I am ready to believe Amarnath on that. He has no personal interest involved here. If anything it would probably cost him for going against the mafia as Gavaskar pointed out by his use of the word "courage". Besides Srikanth who was also a part of the committee did not deny it. If it wasn't true he probably would have.

Yes, I agree that Srinivasan shouldn't have blocked Dhoni sacking. At the same time, I don't think Amarnath should have showed restraint on going after Dhoni rather talking about the actual problem - Srinivasan. Some of the opinions are highly conflicting and lop sided. Srikkanth grew pretty thick with the media at the end of his selection term. His denial or lack of, doesn't add much value.

Amarnath wanted to appoint Sehwag as captain who wasn't even fit enough to be in the team by the end of 2012. :hysterical: Amarnath only knows one line of thinking "Jigar se khelo".
Who was fit enough to be in the team dhoni?:hysterical: Sehwag was the senior most so obviously he was the choice then and his place was secure back then.Amarnath was to be chief selector but was sacked within one year which is rare due to his opp to dhoni.

He had averaged 28 with 1 hundred in 20 tests since SA tour 2010. So there were questions marks on his place already.

He was playing recklessly like he did not care.
