Its not a case of superiority complex. IPL is not as good a test of cricketing talent/strategy etc is very much obvious to anyone who has watched cricket for some time.
That's your opinion. IPL =/ T20 I like test cricket just like you do but for others T20 is better than test cricket. Let's not become fundamentalist and ridicule others due to their choices.

I'm not ridiculing anyone but just saying that IPL/T20 is not as good a test of cricketing talent as test cricket is. And thats quite obvious.

Evidence of "following"? TRP ratings? What are the TRP ratings for test cricket in India? Is it as good as even a daily soap in TV?
Do you seriously thing cricket was played in 50s because of TRP rating. . You follow tests because of TRP rating? As a fan your interest in sports depends on TRP rating.? You are merely suggesting. It is not like anybody even discussed about it. If anything we have gone from 4 test series to 5 test series despite 0-8 thrashing. So unless there is interest, you would not have seen significant surge in no of tests we play . Besides test cricket was never followed every single ball even in the 70s , 80s, 90s. Infact we follow more now thanks to cricinfo etc. than ever. Test cricket has always been like that.

IPL is revenue generating event where there is no real passion or pride involved. The way sangakkara played in IP l was frankly laughable. He just didn',t care. Lot of players don't have to.. With the amount of Aussie influence it is silently becoming APL. They play lot of these useless Aussies .then there is huge underlying corruption. There are several suspicious matches. No real passion as fan. That leaves us with one dayers. World Cup ,CT(only after our recent win) , Asia cup . Besides these what else we care for actually.

That is not entirely true. In all my life I have seen just one test match live. I am an ardent test match fan. We cannot assume anyone who don't go to ground are not test fans.
If u are such an ardant cricket fan they why havent u attended more cricket matches at stadium.People come up plenty of reasons but reality is no one has the passion to attend test matches unlike ODIs or T20s . Sports live through the atmosphere generated in the stadium. No sportsman will perform much if he is performing in front of empty stadiums .Thats the defacto for every sport not just cricket. Thats why ashes is great not because of the quality of cricket but the atmosphere generated by fans. And thats also precisely why test cricket is dying every where apart from Ashes. One can obviously pretend otherwise obviously .

No quiet so. How can we have TRP rating for cricinfo followers. We never had anything like TRP rating in the 70s. How did it survive?

Test cricket is like reading a great book. T20 is like some B grade masala movie.
I never understood this logic lol When one reads a good book they get immersed in it and often repeatedly read it again for the sheer joy of it. Anyone here ever watched a complete repeat telecast of test match ball to ball again if they get same pleasure as like compared to book reading ?

Thats exactly the point. If people are passionate about test cricket then they would rather watch it on tv than follow it online. The typical arm chair fans those. The real passionate fans watch sports dont try to follow it on line

I have not attended one dayers as well. Just one one dayer. Because i live far away from the country. I have never attended IPL or T20 as well.. what does that make me? Test cricket is played through 5 days. People cannot come to ground for all 5 days. They pick and choose when to come. I remember in the 1998 series when Sachin Tendulkar was playing crowd was filling ground thick and fast. This has always been the case for years. decades, If Testcricket had to die because of TRP it should have died long long back. . If anything Test cricket has lot more following due increase in population, technology, access to following a match. None of these were there in the 90s or 80s or before. Yet cricket survived.

I watch through illegal links.. how can they have TRP rating for that :winky:

As a cricket fan you should not even have to care about TRP rating. Why do you worry about it. As long as they play you follow.. you don't follow cricket because others don't follow?

US and India are different.U know that as well lol :winky:
But BCCI or ICC don't schedule tests based on TRP ratings. India's test matches 1990-1994 31 tests 1995-1999 35 tests 2001-2004 52 tests 2005-2009 51 tests 2010-2014* 50 tests (so far) So there is no indication of reduction in Tests due to TRP ratings. If anything we play more cricket than in the 90s.

Keep in Mind IPL is famous because of international stars. If there is no international cricket IPL will fade away. Imagine IPL is being played between Saurab Tiwarys, Manvinder Bisals let us see how that works out.

No. football? Do we play football? No. You want to root for some team that you are passionate about. You want to root for a sports that you are passionate about. Cricket is the only one we have. Cricket will never die in India. Besides IPL is a franchise based leagues. outside those cities there won't be much passion. 80s Test cricket was far more boring than now. It survived then. Nowadays tests finish in 3 days, some tests finish in the last over of final day. One team chases down 300 plus runs in 2 sessions. Teams are getting terrorized by bouncers. Test of technique, temperament.. etc. Vijay made mere 6 runs in the first test first innings in SA. That had so much in it than his 127 runs against Rajasthan Royals where he swung through the line connecting everything. Basically we have come to a conclusion cricket is all about batting and pronounce Test cricket is boring.

I am in my mid thirties. If test cricket is abolished from India before I turn 50, I'll carry any avatar and username you want. Fact is every cricketer wants to perform at test level to be compared to Tendulkar rather than Afridi. Deal?
