G_B_ Posted September 3, 2014 Posted September 3, 2014 anybody else watch it? Some good discussion. Was a panel with Sunny Botham and Matt Prior. One thing i will say. Gavaskar really tailors his replies as well the audience he is addressing. It also seems that the majority of English media people cant help but have a swipe at the IPL. How ironic that IPL will be shown on sky from next year who are Bothams current employers. Food for thought.

Likes of Botham and Holding are fighting a lonely battle, though I am with them regarding this IPL circus.

Overpaid, overhyped sensationalised tripe (unless Huddersfield Town ever get in it of course then it would be the best thing since sliced bread :winky:) The fact that the biggest businesses (not clubs) that compete in it were once well respected institutions of the English game makes it worse

But English people (like Botham) hate IPL because they could not built a premier league in cricket which once a backpacker country like India did. This is called colonial mentality and Botham is just speaking out of it. Not that it matter in anyway as BCCI don't give a damn and his own employer SKY will be broadcasting it from next season. Calling players plays for IPL slaves? Really? Everyone knows that for any franchise based sports, players play for money and crowd gets entertained. There are no emotions attached to it. Is Mesut Ozil is a slave of EPL or he is emotionally attached to Arsenal? He is talking about Ashes being the pinnacle..fair enough. But 50% of foreign players in IPL are Aussies who regularly kicks England's **** in test cricket. English players don't get chance in IPL becuase they are rubbish in shorter version. And just to finish, atleast our national team still is a multi world champion in spite of a so called corrupt IPL. Wish English football team could achieve half the success with all the premier league they have.

Yes it does make me laugh when the ECB go on about stopping English players playing IPL, when no IPL sides would touch any England players with a ten foot bargepole. This year for example our 'best' T20 batsman Mr Hales was open to the idea but no one gave him the time of day I imagine Sky will take commentary from the local broadcasters for IPL coverage, but it does usually still have studio discussions back in the UK. I do wonder who they will have doing that. Clearly not Botham. Bumble, the self proclaimed 'Voice of T20' on Sky, hates IPL. Atherton or Hussain attempting to discuss any form of T20 seriously would be pointless. Bob Willis is too old and grumpy (yet still my favourite Sky pundit. What that says about me I'll leave you to decide :--D) Oh, and if Mesut Ozil is emotionally attached to anything, let alone the company that employs and pays him, I'd be flabbergasted!
