Guest Hiten.
Ajit Wadekar joins ICL as match referee Ajit Wadekar, the former India captain, has joined the Indian Cricket League (ICL) and has been appointed match referee along with Erapalli Prasanna, his former national team-mate. Wadekar's move means he has effectively severed all ties with the Indian board, which is hostile to the ICL. Wadekar, along with former captains Chandu Borde and Gundappa Viswanath, was set to be paraded in the Eden Gardens on November 30 before the start of the second Test against Pakistan, after accepting an invite from the Cricket Association of Bengal. But his association with the ICL makes his attendance untenable. Wadekar, 66, was captain during India's historic wins against the West Indies and England in the early '70s. He played 37 Tests matches, scoring 2113 runs at 31.07 and 15380 runs at the first-class level at 47.03. After his retirement, Wadekar was the manager of the Indian team on many occasions in the'90s. The ICL also announced a panel of four umpires for its inaugural Twenty20 tournament which starts in Chandigarh from November 30. Ray Julian, a respected umpire in the English county circuit, having officiated in more than 500 first-class matches, is the most experienced member of the team. Trevor Jesty, Jeff Evans, and Dean Johnson are other three umpires on the panel. Commenting on the appointments, Kapil Dev, the chairman of the ICL's executive board, said: "Our umpires and referees have rich experience of the game and an eye for precision too. We are happy to have them with us." - Cricinfo Link to comment

apocalypse
Zee to spice up channels with 30 mins of T20 feed NEW DELHI: In a bid to reach out to a larger cricket audience, Subhash Chandra-promoted Essel Group on Monday announced that it will telecast the first 30 minutes of the Indian Cricket League (ICL) matches on all Zee channels barring the two movie channels — Zee Cinema and Zee Studio. ICL’s T20 series will be played at Panchkula, Chandigarh, between November 30 and December 16. Essel Group senior vice president Ashish Kaul told ET: “We have decided to put domestic cricket on a bigger platform and plan to make it available to a much wider audience. Zee Network is available in 125 countries and has a subscriber base of over 550 million. We believe this is a landmark desicion for domestic cricket.†ICL was intially planned to be telecast only on Zee Sports and the group was selling ad-time inventories for the matches for the channel. Asked on the advertising strategy of other Zee channels slated to show the live cricket feed, Mr Kaul said: “As of now we have decided to share Zee Sports’ live feed with other Zee channels for the first 30 minutes. But we are still working out the other details.†Media buyers feel it’s an interesting development, but it remains to be seen how much Zee Network will be able to leverage the potential of its reach. Commenting on Essel’s latest desicion, MindShare managing director Sunder Raman said, “It would be beneficial for ICL as the combined reach of Zee channels is very huge. But the desicion to showcase only the first 30 minutes of the matches may leave the audience neither here nor there.†The series will have 20 matches including 15 league matches. The tournament originally scheduled for October has been moved to November end. Link to comment

praveenj
When you compare with BCCI website, ICL's site might have got a better rank, but I could find many broken links and too much graphics... Graphics I can understand as the site was for pure publicity and nothing else, but some features like random team entries etc were good... Link to comment
