Bummer: VoIP Calls On India’s Airtel Will Be Chargeable Regardless Of Your Da... See their revenues are in decline and they can't increase prices due to competition. The market is pretty competitive and some small provider will very soon take advantage and allow VoIP but will charge data at maybe a little bit more or even not. So the market will fix it but this just shows how competitive the market is these days. I work with providers all over the world and they are desperate right now.

Where did you get that from? Airtel revenues have grown 130% from 2008-09 to 2013-14. that's stupid .They have already charged money for the same in the name of data pack etc .Its not their business how that data pack is used .

Airtel has canceled the plan. Public outrage worked :nice:
  • Airtel hasn’t withdrawn the VoIP packs because of consumer outrage. It’s withdrawn the pack because of the impending TRAI consultation.
  • As Airtel points out, the consultation will not just cover VoIP, but also other OTT services. As per a COAI paper, these services include Instant Messaging (IM), Applications (Apps), Cloud Services, Internet Television, IPTV, M2M – Machine to Machine (M2M) communications, Social Networking, apart from VoIP.
  • The TRAI, as we explained, appears predisposed towards a regulation of online services, and we’re not sure if we can expect a neutral consultation from the TRAI.
