Desi Cartman Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 I have MacBooks and have been using iPhotos and I must admit that its a terrible way of managing photos. Here is my current setup and process Multiple Apple devices like MacBooks , iPhones etc, external WD HDD 1.5TB, 2nd HDD of 500 GB Current Process * Saved iPhoto on 2nd HDD * Import by connecting 2nd HDD to Macbook and then import Moving iPhoto to Network HDD (1.5TB) and wish to back up photos from there to another loaction. Using the 500 GB USB HDD is a pain as its terribly slow. I am a prime member so I can load all photos on Amazon but the catch is that they dont allow storing videos for free. Is there a software that I can do this to manage? what I would ideally want to happen is: * Load from multiple devices to cloud if cloud storage is free * Import from cloud to HDD once every few months just to keep another copy Let me know how you people are managing it and how the hell can I avoid using iPhoto forever?
Old guy Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Tb of data in cloud will be expensive but from what I have read Dropbox works well with Mac .. You want to transfer data from 500 gb had to 1.5 tb and then upload to cloud ?

gattaca Posted January 2, 2015 Posted January 2, 2015 Do you have usb 3.0 harddrive? You might be having one of the older harddrives which are slow. Try on the newer hard drive which are usb 3.0 they are pretty fast.

It surprising for me too when op mentioned about harddrive being slow but now that I think of op has a 50 Mbps line. So it might be faster for him.still I don't if it is faster than a harddrive.

I think the problem is not the for actual file size but the format. It's iPhoto and I am reading that people are getting similar issues. I'm so over this iPhoto crap. They have also fuxked Up picasa and it's very complicated if possible to store photos locally using picasa.

Old guy Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 now how do u back it up ? all my pictures were in ipad (put them in it for transfering )and i just hit import button . in pen drive or hard disk i can jsut copy files and put in folder arranging part i have not dealt with yet as i dont have many photos right now . most of my photos are backed up to drop box which happens automatically even on mac and it manages photos well .

Kalia_Test Posted January 3, 2015 Posted January 3, 2015 All my photos and videos are backed up in Google autobackup, Dropbox and also Onedrive automatically...they sync to my PC also which I backup regularly onto my external HD ( WD 1 TB )...In addition, my photos are in my microSD card and I take a backup of that too on my old external HD...so too many backups... * Samsung gave me 50 GB of dropbox space for my galaxy s4 for 2 years which is enough for now...also, additional cloud storage is not really expensive - dropbox had/have a 1 TB offer recently...
