Vijy Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Harris for Cummins in that case. Starc has been very good in ODIs better than Johnson. His bounce troubles batsmen. Yes, that's true. Starc and Harris (also McKay) have excellent records, as does Hazel. Actually, I'm not sure if Warner should be opening - he seems to be morphing into Sehwag more and more. Sehwag was a damn good Test player (before his reflexes, etc fell off) but was never that great an ODI player. It might be interesting to open with Watto and Finch. This adds an extra bowling option and opens up a spot in the middle order for an extra bat/AR/spinner.
MCGGG Posted January 10, 2015 Author Posted January 10, 2015 Wonder if James Pattinson is in the mix, IMO he's our most talented test bowler and he's bowling in the BB now coming back from injury, he's a seriously talented fast man.

I mean, one could make up 3 sets of ODI bowling quarters: Starc, Pattinson, Cummins, Hazel (young 'uns) Harris, Johnson, McKay, Bollinger (the old guard) N. Coulter-Nile, B. Cutting, G. Sandhu, J. Behrendorff (the reserves)

Vijy Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 He's bowling thunderbolts ATM' date=' almost took Wright (England) head clean off, 150ks, looking realllll good.[/quote'] That sounds about Wright. :giggle:
MCGGG Posted January 10, 2015 Author Posted January 10, 2015 Watto is a middling-to-good Test player' date=' but an exceptionally valuable ODI player. As a fielder, he's not comparable to the rest, but I think he's a better bat (and a useful bowler) than Mitch Marsh. As I noted in the first post, there are plenty of bowling options even if both play.[/quote'] He's a test failure IMO, him batting at 3 is mind boggling, he just doesn't have it and his bowling isn't anywhere near what it used to be, he used to be 140k+, injuries have taken their toll unfortunately, IMO what's kept him at 3 is he always (mostly) looks the part, but time after time, start after start he comes up short. IMO he's played his last test, the guard will change after the WC.
brendan07 Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Best XI Warner Fnch (although am far from convinced about that hack) Watson Smith Bailey Maxwell Haddin or Wade (in odi's only) Faulkner Johnson Cummins Starc Squad: Harris, White (or another spare bat), NCN/Abbott, Mitch Marsh

brendan07 Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 NCN is injured' date=' so is Mitch.[/quote'] Mitch Marsh is back next week there was talk he was going to play the Big Bash game tomorrow
bowl_out Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 This is the expected squad: Michael Clarke (capt), Brad Haddin (wk), David Warner, Aaron Finch, Shane Watson, Steven Smith, George Bailey, Glenn Maxwell, Mitchell Marsh, James Faulkner, Mitchell Johnson, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Xavier Doherty. I had the same XV... Looks like the same XV has been picked
