AmreekanDesi Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Aussie chief selector said while announcing the team : 'Ryan Harris not selected in order to hold him back for the Ashes in the summer.' what do you guys think?
Old guy Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 How much free time do you have ? Find a *****y news paper or website and become editor there you will do well .
AmreekanDesi Posted January 12, 2015 Author Posted January 12, 2015 How much free time do you have ? Find a *****y news paper or website and become editor there you will do well . huh? though as for free time. winter break :icflove:
kosingh Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Well the West Indies dropped Pollard and Bravo because they wanted to rebuild for the next World Cup.
Old guy Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Come on man do not make up stuff out of nothing . If this is serious thread I will answer . Ryan Harris has injury problems and over past few years has only played tests and australia need him more in tests . While his stats in odi are exceptional he is still replaceable but that is not case in test so he has been training himself to play ashes and retire that is his target and I am sure he will retire after that . If he had ability to play both he would have but ashes just makes more sense for bowler like him who has not even played many odis in recent past ..
Number Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Aus-Eng give more importance to the Ashes over World Cup and its just fine. Nothing wrong with it. You may find many many people in India who will swap a world cup with test series win in Aus/SA anyday.
Old guy Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Aus-Eng give more importance to Ashes over World Cup and its just fine. Nothing wrong with it. Ashes is test cricket and World Cup is ODIs. You may find many many people in India who will swap a world cup with series win in Aus/SA anyday. I am one of them but that is strictly because we have won World Cup very recently but not won series there in our entire history ...:giggle:

My issue is that you are meant to put out your best squad forward for the WC and Ryan Harris is among their best fast bowlers and deserves to be on merit in a home WC. Infact there were several quotes attributed to him that he wants to play in this home WC as well as being sort of a campaign in Aus to include him for this all important event Just because he was rested and not risked for meaningless odi's before doesnt mean that the WC is of the same value. For eg. Steyn himself has played in barely 90 ODIs whereas he has played 80 tests in the same time period. But not for once would you think that SA thought of not taking him to the WC and keeping him fit for test endeavors. My point here is that Oz havent put their best squad forward for the WC. If he had retired on his own in ODIs (like Waugh for 2003 wc) then it makes sense. But here is a player who wants to play in the WC but the selectros said that they want him fully firing for the Ashes and hence inferring that the WC is not top priority
Old guy Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Let me put it this way ..tell me last time Harris played odi match ? I am not even sure it was before or after the rule changed in odis ..he is very very injury prone and if his body permitted he would have played more but right now he can only play tests and he is aiming for retirement at ashes . Also another thing is he is replaceable in odis but you cannot replace him in tests now add to it lack of odi cricket he has played recently how can you select him ? They have lot of options for quick bowling at home .. Also about retirement he simp,y said he will retire after ashes rest of cricket he plays depends on his body but that is the series he is targeting and it means a lot to them ..
Old guy Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 He in total has played 21 in odis in his career and last of them was 3 years ago ...how can you even justify selecting him in this format ? Just read article on cricbuzz or any other site .. Chief selector Rod Marsh said he could have used the 35-year-old as a trump card in next month's World Cup, but wanted him in peak condition for the next Ashes series. "We would really like to see Ryan go to England, bowl his heart out in Test cricket and keep those Ashes," Marsh told reporters. "He's that important to the team in Test match cricket. I know there's nothing bigger than the World Cup, but maybe international one-day cricket - he's had his time there." Marsh suggested Harris was typically understanding of the decision. "I went to speak to him last night to tell him he wasn't in the team. I said, 'Ryano', and he said, 'don't worry mate, I know'. I think he would have loved to be in the side, but I think he also realises he would have struggled." http://m.cricbuzz.com/cricket-news/67980/ryan-harris-wrapped-in-cotton-wool-for-ashes
Sachin=GOD Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 LOL....the Ashes does matter a lot for Aus/Eng. Didn't knew it mattered this much though.
BeautifulGame Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 From the same article We'd really like to see Ryan go to England and bowl his heart out again in Test cricket and keep those Ashes," Marsh said. "He's that important to the team in Test match cricket. I know there's nothing bigger than a World Cup ... He would have loved to have been in the side but I think he also realises that he would have struggled."
Old guy Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 From the same article I did not wanted to post entire thing here but that is exactly point I am making . No disrespect just that they decided that he will only play tests as he is more valuable there and last odi he played was 3 years ago so it was obvious decision .

CoverDrive Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 i would say winning WC at home would be top of priority for them. It is just that Harris has not played ODIs much for very long and this is a good way to break the news to him rather than saying you are not good enough to play in WC
BlueBee Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 AUS-ENG give more importance to tests, especially Ashes. There's nothing much into it.
India-KXIP fan Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I used to care about World Cup now it doesn't even matter after all those white washes. And plus when I look at who is greatest never factor in SRT is highest World Cup scorer, McGrath is highest wicket taker. I judge them based on tests. Pyjama cricket is pyjama cricket. Snooze fest world cup is not more important than test series win. It used to be important in 2011 now it isn't to me. No reason for it, just LOI cricket is LOI cricket end of day. Hopefully this changes slightly in upcoming weeks. It probably will become important again when India reach quarters which they surely cannot mess up. Win all the world cups you want at the end of the day you know in back of your mind the bowling is so chit the only way they can get a team all out is if they slog in an LOI game :((
MCGGG Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 His knee is on borrowed time, but if he made himself available he should have been selected, as for over confidence Warner needs to shut his pie hole.
kosingh Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Get the minnows out of the World Cup. I don't particularly care for the World Cup the way it is either.
