G_B_ Posted February 19, 2015 Posted February 19, 2015 http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/31531664 Based on british radio outlet talksport, FIFA presidential candidate Figo wants to increase teams to 48 from 32. With Asia and Africa gaining the lions share of these extra places. As of now Asia has potentially 5 places (depending on a playoff) . These will rise to 13. With Asia divided into middle east (5 berths) , far east (4 berths) , south east asia including Aus (2/3) and south asia (1/2 berth) The idea as per him to to get East Asia ( China) . South Asia (India) South east asia (indoneria, thailand) into the world cup to increase the commercial base. 8 groups. 6 teams each. QF---Semi---Final. Thats his plan. What do you guys think? Would India have a chance if South asia with 8 countries India, Pak, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka , Maldives, Nepal , Bhutan and Afghanistan have 1/2 berths?
moniker Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 Don't think we'd still be good enough to clinch a spot. Afghanistan and Bangladesh are better teams.
Sidhoni Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 I don't think they will really increase the no. of teams. This format is perfect and has been so successful.
Sidhoni Posted February 20, 2015 Posted February 20, 2015 We can expect a World Cup berth by 2022 WC No way
Gollum Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 Duh, even Maldives have a better team than us. Indian football is a national shame !!!
BeautifulGame Posted February 25, 2015 Posted February 25, 2015 All the south Asian teams are sub standard. So fluking isn't impossible particularly if the qualification matches are played in India . If they give South Asia an ensured spot we will have a decent chance of qualifying . But when in the world cup it will be comical cricket scores and humiliation. Not worth it will only reduce the quality of world cup
sachin34357 Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 wont this new ISL improve Indian national team in next 10 years?
Sidhoni Posted February 26, 2015 Posted February 26, 2015 wont this new ISL improve Indian national team in next 10 years? It would be lot better if ISL and I league merged. Right now foreigners are improving rather than Indian players.
