I am not sure it is due to the attitude or tactics .More than not performing in India is solely based on the quality of seam attack opposition has. The only time Aussies had 3 genuine world class seam bowlers they clinched the series in India . SA unlike Aussies always had quality seam attack in recent times (particularly Steyn) which is the primary reason.Also unlike the current generation Aussie batsmen the likes of Smith Amla Kallis De Villiers are excellent players of spin which is a key factor as well imo

Australia had a great seam attack in 2001. South Africa beat India even in 2000 - the only time they didn't when they had a relatively new team in 2006 with Andrew Hall opening. Of course, I did not mean that is the ONLY reason but it does contribute a lot. You read up about views by Gilchrist, Ponting in 2004 and they echo the same theory.
