There's an important factor that people are not discussing here. Bevan faced way better bowlers and there wasn't any powerplays and cement pitches. Dhoni had the luxury of fielding restrictions, mediocre bowlers and flat pitches. Bevan averaged 53 out of mostly 260+ scores whereas Dhoni averages 52 out of mostly 300+ scores. Yeah Dhoni should have played in Bevan's era. It's his mistake he was born in this era.

While Bevan played in an era with better bowlers, he did not face the best bowlers of his era because they were on his team. Bevan would have looked a lot worse as a finisher if he had McGrath bowling to him at the death.

He has 3 fifties in Aus and SA in their own countries in 22 inns, all of them are lost. He has scores of 17*, 15*, 36, 38, 5, 44* in win matches. In those three reasonable scores Yuvraj, Raina contributed better than Dhoni. I couldn't find anything to agree that he's the best finisher, especially if you can't do it against the only two good bowling units of your generation in their own backyard. People are way to nostalgic of the past. Making it sounded like Bevan faced Michael Holding day in, day out. He faced the odd great bowler coupled with a whole load of good to average bowlers. People spend way too much time analysing pointless stats to paint a picture they choose. You bring your subjective views on which were good bowling attacks or not. Watch the game, know the players who oppositions spend hours trying to counter in dressing rooms. Dhoni by far is the greatest finisher ever.
