Scarves Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 Its not about Aussie sporting preference .Its about surprise that a country who is known to produce best cricket team .Where people fill grounds when tests are played are giving so little importance to world cup .Kerala in India don't produce best ranji team neither they are known to produce great players for India Even when USA reached soccer quarter final Americans were celebrating on streets, and one news channel even said that most of americans don't even know what football is .I ams sure if world cup is played in America and america reaches quarter final , lot of americans will come and support their team irrespective of whether they like cricket or not The surprise element is world cup is played in Australia 2nd time in 40 years and this is first time their team reached SF and their team is doing exceptionally well .atleast you expect more respect for this from a cricketing nation The advertising and coverage here has been shocking which is why there is a lack of interest. The fact that Star Sports had the rights doesn't help
CG Posted March 22, 2015 Posted March 22, 2015 I reckon Wc has had pretty good attendances till now.Even aussie afg game had a decent crowd and aussie lanka had a huge crowd.The fact is there are few good matches.Quaterfinal was disappointing but 35k is not bad .

Throughout the World Cup, a television advertisement has featured Brendon McCullum telling his country to "dream big, New Zealand". As the crowds streamed towards the stadium known as the Cake Tin on a gloriously sunny Saturday afternoon, it seemed like the message of the Black Caps captain was getting through. By the time they drifted away into the Wellington night, having seen the Martin Guptill-inspired Kiwis destroy West Indies to earn a place in the semi-finals, the dream was fast becoming a reality. Guptill's unbeaten 237 was the highest score in a World Cup match, the second biggest in one-day internationals and the fourth best in all List A cricket. He broke his own record for the highest score by a New Zealander, becoming only the second man to hit a World Cup double ton and the fifth to do so in all ODIs. McCullum called it the "the greatest ODI innings I've seen live", former New Zealand captain Jeremy Coney said that Guptill "dazzled", while former India batsman Rahul Dravid described it as "incredible". Coverage has been few notches above setmax.It was shocking the coverage and graphics which set max used for world cup nobody complained then? Just excuses nothing else.

Australia have several more sports at the present moment that are on FTA on TV such as Union, League, Aussie Rules and A-League 3. Since the ICC gave the rights to Star Sports it puts restrictions on Channel 9 to show matches, to pay for matches when they can show their Rugby League schedule for cheaper. 4. The fact that all matches are on Pay-TV which limits penetration to the Australian consumer when they can go to an A-League Game. 5. The fact that tickets now cost $50+ when you can go to a cheaper game in another sport makes a difference. 6. There isn't interest with other teams. I mean would you take a day off work to go to England v. Bangladesh at the MCG for example. The point is that there is a lack of penetration due to a lack of rights in coverage and also many other issues that have limited the interest in the Cricket World Cup. I mean we sat through months of cricket from November to March, so Australians are getting sick of it.

How enjoyable is it for an Aussie to attend a match surrounded by hordes of Indians many of whom are from India or recently settled in Oz? I don't mean to sound racist but i used to love attending matches in the UK where you had great banter between white England fans and British Asians. There needs to be a comfortable familiarity before you can celebrate your differences. Nowadays the Indian contingent at UK matches is mostly folk that have recently settled in the UK and frankly they do not represent me. I'd rather stay at home and watch on TV. It's a shame.
