India's All-Rounder Problem

All rounders are crucial to success in all forms of cricket these days. Be it relieving your regular bowlers of some workload in test matches, chipping in with a few extra runs in ODIs/T20s that make the difference between winning and losing, or shouldering the workload of the 5th bowler. They can effectively make any match an 11 man vs 12 or 13 man contest. All-rounders have played a crucial part in the success of teams such as Australia and South Africa. Aus:- Shane Watson James Faulkner Maxwell Johnson SL: Matthews Dilshan SA:- Duminy Weise Morris Philander Others:- Corey Anderson Shakib Hafeez However, India do not have any all-rounders who are matchwinners of an equivalent level. Jadeja showed some potential but has since faded away. Why do we fail to produce good all-rounders ? And who are some of the emerging prospects ? Jadeja Irfan Pathan Yusuf Pathan Axar Patel Deepak Hooda Baba Aparajith Rishi Dhawan Stuart Binny Do you see any of these (or any other) being good enough to represent india in the near future.

If Duminy, Weise, Philander are considered as all rounders than Ashwin is on same level. Hafeez is an allrounder against poor teams only and his batting is crap outside UAE.

Hardik Pandya (MI,Boroda) has shown glimpses of allround talent. He bats at no 4,5 position for Boroda & bowls at 135 kmph speed. As he is batting above Irfan,Yusuf,Hooda,he may be hard hitting batting allrounder.Of all the pace bowling allrounders in contention he can bowl fast,is young,& as seen in Ipl ,can hit big sixes down the order

I Think Binny is OK....he has not been a total failure at the ODI level yet...playing him in tests is a disgrace but he can be a fringe player in LOI's.

we havent has a true all rounder since manoj prabhakar he retired in 96 almost 20 yrs ago; since then we have won WCs, ODIs all across the world, even were test no 1 for some time. we can live without one.

I would not classify Maxwell as an allrounder. Honestly think Raina is better with the ball. Ditto with Dilshan and JP. Neither is Johnson an allrounder. Thats like saying Bhuvi is an allrounder or even Bhajji. "pure" allrounders in the limited overs are Mathews Faulkner Watson Hafeez (provided he is not banned) Sakib DJ Bravo The rest of the list are more like utility players in one discipline or the other. Ie they give you options. They are not frontline.

yes This is India's biggest weakness after having Fast bowlers who are often inconsistent. Now that Dhoni is leaving, we are soon going to have a keeper issue. You could argue that having two half all-rounders in Ashwin and Jaddu adds up to be 1 Good one. but you are right, I would ideally like a James Faulkner type. Irfan Pathan showed so much talent once.:((
