Now that we have seen what ECB has done with KP and James pattinsons brother. How can foreign players trust ECB. They seem to be handling import players poorly. This certainly will impact players moving from SA and Zimbabwe to England for playing for England.

£££££££££ you would have to be naive to think Trott et al moved to England for the trust. Even before he represented England Trott and co were earning £100,000 plus. Much more than what they were earning in SA. 0 impact. As below the ECB is a well defined county structure. All this "i want to play test cricket" BS from Irish cricketer hides that fact that being an England player is a lot more financially rewarding than being an Irish cricketer.

The imports will still get chances because the home grown English players aren't good enough.

and i also think people are going over the top in terms of dimissing England. every board in cricket goes through a degree of turmoil SA---> the best team is not represented due to quotas. In the WC there was suggestion Philander was played to full fill the same quota despite not being 100%. This is much more dangerous than dropping KP. Aus---> who can forget homework gate and the chaos of that Indian tour and the mess with Mickey Aurther. Lehman has covered up a very dark period in Aussie cricket. WI----> left a tour of india in the middle. SL---> Pak---> need i say more BCCI----> Problems with cricketing enthusiasts. I also remember reading Ganguly v Chappell splashed in the media. That was our KP moment (may not be entirely accurate)

@OP. You got a point. Probably ECB may attract second string players like Trott or Morgan but I will be surprised if it will ever be able to import greats like KP. Not because likes of KP dont need money, But simply because they will know that selectors in their own country will pick them

So why cant these players play for county and represent south africa. Is there is a exclusive contract they have to sign that would not allow them to play for their home country. I see the financial benefits of county.

KP at that time was a spinner. He came to nottinghamshire via his english grandmother where the coaches there turned him into a batsman you know today. Its not as if KP was hanging from a tree. If he was such a big talent from the start the Saffers would have inducted him. County cricket did play its part into turning him into a finished product. Its not as if England just imported him.

I find this kolpak rule sickening. Just because someone's great grandmother was a british citizen doesn't make them entitled to play for England. Everyone knows England Cricketers are crap. What's stopping them from poaching Indians cause every Indian's grandfather or great-grandfather would have been a british subject at one point of time.

I think what happened is English cricket sucked in the 90s so it had a lagged effect for the 00s. Slowly English guys out and out are replacing people. England is also not alone. Australia Fawad Ahmed and South Africa Tahir too seem to be accepting outsiders.

Trott wasn't good enough to represent SA (even at his best he wasn't a regular in our provincial A sides). KP was useless at the time he left SA (played for Natal B). BTW - Andrew Strauss is also a South Afrcan, I think he is just jealous of KP's achievements.

Trott still doesnt go anywhere near to existing African batsmen. So at his best, he may have had a very small stint with African national team. KP was more of a kid
