Most of the tracks he played early on were tough for batting, not easy to start your career on such pitches.

Pujara is a good player. But currently he is a test mode player and definite inability to play big shots as well as rotate strike. If given a chance, he will take a minimum of 25 matches to get into the pace of odi cricket at international level. Probably similar to dravid. The question is, do we lack options at this stage to give some one 25+ matches to get used to the odi level?

AmreekanDesi, I feel from the beginning of his career he has been projected as a solid test player, who has great technique, is very compact and is ideal for the longer format. But when it comes to ODIs, the Rohit Sharma's, Raina's and Jadeja's have hogged all the limelight.

Austin 3:!6, agree with you completely. Pujara has struggled to adjust to the fast pace of the shorter format.

Actually, when I had first seen Pujara in U19WC 2006. I was not convinced with his batting style. Even after that he scored runs domestic cricket but because I had seen him previously, I was not convinced about his international prowess even for longer format of the game.

I was scrolling through the list and found an Indian player with these stats: First-class 95 158 6983 250* 50.60 52.19 List A 79 75 3162 126* 48.64 83.03 Interesting stats, especially for a guy who has never - not once - been spoken about as a remote India prospect. And guys like Amba.... oh well.

Now, of course, he is a shell of himself. One can only hope he comes back to old form; our test top order would be formidatble with Vijay, Kohli, Rahane and Pujara all possessing the ability to grind it out under tough conditions.
