Hyderabad, India - Sitting in a small clearing in the cramped refugee camp he calls home, Mohammad Kareem cuts a stark figure. His eyes are intense, flickering with a quiet rage, and his body language forlorn. Mohammad incessantly chews on betel nut, almost as if to distract himself from the horrors he's trying hard to forget. Removed from all the chatter around him, Mohammad is a lonely figure in the middle of a lively camp where neighbours mill about outside their darkened tarpaulin homes and conversation serves as comfort. But I soon realise why Mohammad appears tuned out. He's new here. New to this camp, new to the city of Hyderabad, new to India - and new to the harsh reality of being separated from his wife, daughter, mother and sister. Mohammad says he is 32 years old and that he is from Rakhine state in Myanmar. He arrived in Hyderabad three days ago, he says, and headed straight to this place, known to Rohingya migrants in the southern Indian city of Hyderabad as "camp one", in Balapur. This is a place where many in the community seek to reboot their lives, starting with freeing themselves from the constant fear of persecution they feel back home.
"The way out of Myanmar is a long and dangerous one. Many can't make it. Those who try and cross over to countries like Malaysia, Japan and Thailand by boat often sink or get caught and are thrown into prison." That's why I decided to escape with my family to India. I had heard that the people of India were welcoming to people like us. I knew there were other Rohingya Muslims who were living here, as some of my relatives managed to find a home here when they escaped Myanmar. I thought my family would be safe as well if we came here. So I left home with my wife and nine-month-old daughter under the cover of darkness. Our first stop was Chittagong in Bangladesh. Some locals there helped us cross the border into India and we arrived in the eastern Indian state of West Bengal. But just then, things went very wrong for us. The authorities took away my wife and daughter. I somehow managed to escape. I don't know where they are anymore. My mother and sister too are still stuck in Myanmar. I just don't know what to do to trace my family and bring everyone to a place of safety."

HYDERABAD: With intelligence inputs suggesting terror threat from Rohingya Muslims of Myanmar, who have sought refuge and settled in Hyderabad, city police have stepped up vigil on those living here. In fact, after the National Investigation Agency (NIA) nabbed Khalid Mohammed, a Rohingya, from Balapur last November in connection with the Burdwan blast case, the city police perception had changed. Caught off foot by the presence of the Jamat-Ul Mujahideen Bangladesh, an off-shoot of Rohingya Solidarity Organisation, in their backyard, they have taken a host of measures including fingerprinting, employment status, demographic details and photographs while vigil has been stepped up. The city police, though, is tight-lipped about any recent intelligence inputs about members of the community being in touch with radical groups abroad. Police officials do not deny the vulnerability factor of Rohingyas, who, they believe could be easily exploited by extremists to take up radical paths. As many as 1679 Rohingya refugees from Myanmar live in parts of Hyderabad and Cyberabad according to police records. After their exodus in June 2012 in the aftermath of ethnic violence between Rakhine Buddhists and Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar to various parts of India, including Hyderabad, and considering their susceptibility towards extremists outfits, the city police have been keeping a strict surveillance on the community. A senior police officer on condition of anonymity, said, “Since they are poor, uneducated and alien to the land here, they are likely to be exploited and might be used by hardliners. There is no hard evidence to suspect anyone and police are maintaining total surveillance.†Mazher Hussain, Convenor, COVA, who has been working with the refugees said many of them are yet to be united with their relatives. “Their living conditions are pathetic. Most of them are illiterate or semi-literate and do daily wage jobs and earn Rs 6,000-7,000 per month,†said Hussain. “There is no hard evidence in the case till date against him. Other than offences relating to fake passport or Aadhaar, they have not been involved in any act threatening the security of the nation,†said a police official.
Why the **** is India not kicking them out. And why only my city :mad: Why can't they go to somewhere else :(( I am thinking of going and meeting them and telling them to to Bangalore or Nagpur or Mohali where they can watch WT20 next year. No matches in Hyd :hmmm:

Bunch of sissies they are - Did they ever win anything? 65,71 and Kargil - Their backsides were handed to them. All that they are good at is killing unarmed Balochis and innocent citizens in Afghan Border/MQM supporters in Karachi. They are good in PR though. Constantly feeding their gullible public that they are the invincible Islamic Army - getting all the tax-payers money and leading a lavish lifestyle. In contrast, I don't think Indian army is paid that well. 1 out of 1000 Indians will know the name of our Army Chief. 1 out of 10000 will know names of our Chief Admiral of Navy or Air Chief Marshall. 1 out of 100000 will know about R&AW and 1/10 of those that know will know the name of their chief. Numerous reports on inadequate diet to our Jawans ( especially those guarding our borders in high altitudes ) and in general, we Indians don't give as much respect to people from Armed forces as they deserve ( we dont disrespect them but someone putting their life for guarding our country's borders deserves a special place ). Still they beat the sorry Pak Army every time they faced them :hatsoff: ------------- Rohingya muslims in my hometown :mad:

Rohingyas are an unwanted national security menace brought upon India by UPA and AIMIM. Only 1600 odd of these cockroaches in Hyderabad and they were involved in 2 terror attacks on our soil. We need to wash our hands off this mess !!!
