If anything Sanjay Gandhi's family is part of BJP. Cameroon is NOT descendent/kin of Dyer? Cameroon apoligy came as prime minister (read PM office) of GB. Askin kins to apologize is like asking son to pay for bankruptcy committed by parents. Yeah....Cameron was not kin of Dyer while Rajiv/Sonia/Rahul/Priyanka/Varun/Meneka are kin of Indira/Sanjay Gandhi so they had all the more reason to apologize. As for apology coming from PM's office - Rajiv was PM and forget about apologizing for emergency, he justified 84 Riots as 'when a big tree falls, the earth shakes'. Sonia was the Chairperson of NAC for 10 years and was more powerful than the PM - she could have apologized in that capacity. Meneka/Varun/Rahul/Priynaka have all been in politics but they also haven't said ANYTHING about it till date.

I have no issue with emergency@40 and lessons learnt and trying to do something which makes implementation of emergency allmost next to impossible.BUt all I see is Advani and others more interested in holding Congress(I) kins responsible for emergency just because they are in "Politics" sounds more like "Politics".
BeautifulGame Posted July 1, 2015 Posted July 1, 2015 Just finished the book .The thing stood out for me is Indira Gandhi actually lifted the emergency because of pressure and criticism from western countries. Almost every opposition and protest was silenced inside India .Lucky she cared for world perception of her .If Indira had the attitude of someone like Mugabe we would have been finished as a democracy. Also I always thought Sanjay fell out of favour with Indira Gandhi after the 1977 elections .But if hadnt didn't die in 1980 he would have been the PM of India in 1984 with an even bigger mandate than Indira had in 1971 .Shudder what would have happened if that happened .

In case of emergency Indira and Sanjay Gandhi were directly responsible - they imposed and brutally enforced it. No Prime Minister took away the basic human rights of India's people or subverted democracy or abused the constitution the way she did. As for her murder - it was Sanjay's friends (Anant Bir Singh etc) who made Bhindranwale join politics as a counter to the Akalis.....and then they couldn't control him as he became too powerful.
