Virat_Fangirl Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 Virat kohli has his weakness outside the offstump. Again today he was chasing the ball outside the offstump like so many times .. why doesn't he correct this weakness? I know it is easy for us to say... but still so according to Sanjay Manjrekar Sanjay Manjrekar @sanjaymanjrekar 12h12 hours ago What stands between Virat Kohli & batting greatness? That real vulnerability outside off on a seaming pitch. #INDvSL

Kohli has a long way to go before he equals likes of SRT, Dravid.

Kohli has a long way to go before he equals likes of SRT' date=' Dravid.[/quote'] He has done well enough at home though. Even in England series he eventually got a 100 in final test vs Swann and Monty. And lets not forget innings vs Lyon in Adelaide. Sanjay is spot on. In Aus he drove 100's of balls outside off to the fence. But those pitches were not seaming. He needs more innings like one in SA. More assured in that area.

Kohli has more than just 1 chink

Kohli has more than just 1 chink[/quote'] I thought he struggled in that series but in the end overcame his struggles and did get century in final test. I saw it that way, overcoming rather than struggling...his 31 average. Innings vs Lyon was something special. I know Vijay made 99, but he was out lbw before that not given and generally had a much harder time. Lyon took 12 wickets but Kohli never really looked troubled by him. Also this ongoing series he has done well.

Also this ongoing series Im sure his average vs spin will be good. I'd agree that his weakness against swing is more pronounced than the one against spin; after all, he did play some fine knocks. However, I do believe that this spin weakness, despite being a secondary one, may pop up from time to time.
Adi_91 Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 Not just him, most of our batsman have some serious weaknesses that they need to work on. If Kohli wants to be separated from his other batsmen in the team, he needs to improve his game. Not saying that he should not get out to balls outside off stump. But, he lived a very first day and a similar second day's morning before getting out. Even in the World Cup, in the QF, he got out chasing a wide delivery. That is something he can definitely avoid.

The World Cup was different. On those same pitches he drove 100's of balls to fence in 4 tests. Many were accurate deliveries outside off by guys like Harris and Hazlewood.
sensible-indian Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 I hope this stops people from bringing the 4 centuries in Aus excuse. Been saying this for a LONG LONG time. That off stump area has been problematic for him. Actually he used to leave all those deliveries in SA but then after Anderson saga, its frustrating to see him STILL make the same godamn mistakes. Damn it Kohli. Control your urges. Practice and condition your mind.
fineleg Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 Corridor of uncertainty weakness is there for many subcontinental (and others too) players. Its one that needs a lot of back to basics corrections, which is tough to do when playing without a break. This is the kind of thing that needs some time off from IPL mania, and some time off from ODI meaningless bilateral. Take time to do one on one coaching and a solid county stint and work hard (dedication) for overcoming the weakness. Cannot be done just playing Intl matches and IPL and vacation with Anshka. Also lot of discipline for a match or two, like SRT sydney - no cover drive nothing in that match. Be disciplined to not fish, needs time away for coaching and county stint (for the non-SRT player, since they arent SRT).

sensible-indian Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 And by the way, what happened to Ashwin. Is playing way worse than Nohit ever played. All lazy shots.
fineleg Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 And by the way, what happened to Ashwin. Is playing way worse than Nohit ever played. All lazy shots. Ashwin is bowling well, so he is taking it way too easy on batting since he is coasting on bowling. Hate that mentality he is showing.

[b']Hate that mentality he is showing. Absolutely. Joker. I think he wants to score runs but inevitably relaxes for certain deliveries. If someone doesn't have the ability, you don't get this much angry (unless that player get repeatedly picked). But when a guy has ability to score but isn't doing due to brainlessness, its annoying. Got himself out in all 5 innings. India is FREAKING depending on him to contribute a bit and he is being as lazy as it gets with his shots.
Vijy Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 And by the way, what happened to Ashwin. Is playing way worse than Nohit ever played. All lazy shots. Ashwin is quite lazy. He seems to have given up on batting, having realized that his bowling is good enough for him to be in the team.

He's the antithesis of Kumble, who always used to place a price on his wicket; Mishy has done that to some extent (although he's too adventurous as well). The one player who strikes me as having this attitude with bat in lower order is BK (and to a lesser degree Pisshant).
Vijy Posted August 29, 2015 Posted August 29, 2015 Actually for just this one particular match if the grass remains you never know what guys like Bunny or Bhuvi can do with ball :cantstop: Bhuvi would have indeed done many things with the new ball. However, Kohli's urge to select Binny may yet backfire and land him with... egg on his face.
