kubrickian Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 David Gower, Botham, Atherton, Holding can sound boring during LOIs. They dont sound like they are excited about ODI or T20 cricket and just sound like they are going through the motions and sometimes sound snobbish, as though they are above the silliness of LOIs. Its as if they just want to get through a day job for a paycheck. Test cricket is their priority. You need people in the comm box who are excited to be watching the game. The best commentators I've heard were Tony Greig, Henry Blofeld, Bill Lawry, Tony Cozier, Ritchie Benaud who were genuinely enthusiastic about watching a game of cricket and that enthusiasm rubs off on the audience. I grew up watching cricket listening to their commentary and they had a big part in making me a cricket fan. Nowadays, commentary is generally crap. I reach for the mute button more often than not.
G_B_ Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 Dude. I have stayed in UK for many years and I have a PR there too now ( If you are a customer of Thames Water - chances are that your Bill is from the code I managed :winky: ) .I visit UK very often too ( mostly for vacation but some official trips too ). Trust me - I have a good idea of Sports preferences of localites. let me know when ur in the uk next. we can meet potentially both of us are free. I still don't get why Sky can't get ODI experts for commentary. Not that they cost more ( I saw Warne and Ponting in commentary for Tests). This Sky ODI commentary/Studio Analysis is not restricted to UK. Star Sports is relaying the feed and Analysis/commentary directly to India too. And Beefy and Holding talking about ODIs :banghead: Nick Knight is the ODI expert. With Dominic Cork being the in studio expert (mostly for non england games skysports show)
adi B Posted September 6, 2015 Posted September 6, 2015 oh please i have heard worst from South africans; Robin Jackman is probably the most bias commentator. Despite all the effort Manjraker puts in to sounding neutral' date=' you should hear him gloat when India are in a commanding position.[/quote'] Mike haysman is the worst of that lot
