You are right, Vijy. Its a characteristic of Indian batting to lose games from winning positions. The fourth ODI in the recently concluded Ind-Aus ODI series is the latest example of a typical Indian batting collapse.

Very true. We are masters of the choke... whilst Saffers are (at least in WCs) grandmasters in this respect.

Agreed. However, since Dhobi and co, our choking has certainly reduced compared to earlier (although there are still many spectacular collapses - 2011 WC vs SA was one such example, if I remember correctly).

You are right, but even then fans are never sure if they will be able to post a good total/chase the target. The experience is similar to tossing a coin and praying for a favorable result. Fans are never sure of the outcome, just pray for the best.

There was a period, sometime in the mid 2000s, when we chased successfully 15 times or so in a row, I think... Certainly, we have found batsman who bat well the 2nd time - Kohli, Gambhir, Dhobi, Yuvi (for some period), etc.

Not sure about the Indian record for successful chases, but yes I agree with your observation. The guys you named have certainly won quite a few matches while chasing, but are no match when compared to Aus, the best team in the world.

By and large, yes. However, the Aussies also had the advantage, for most part of the 90s and 2000s of having very strong ODI bowlers who could restrict opposition to chaseable totals. Profligacy of Indian bowlers, as we saw in the last series, proved to be a difference... as did the lack of big hitting of course towards the end overs.

From 2010 , out of 91 ODIs where India have batted second, we have won 58, lost 29 and 4 had no results.

Quite good.

A lot of credit shud actually go to rahul dravid n greg chappel, It was in their tenure that we became brilliant at chasing. at that time we had record of chasing for no of games . Not to forget role of Dhoni, yuvraj,pathan n dravid as batsman in lower order

Their tenure received a lot of unnecessary flak, but those 2 yrs did bring in a lot to indian team even though it didnt show in results .
