Cricket’s Greatest Brendon McCullum

After 14 years of non-stop entertainment, one of the most flamboyant cricketers, Brendon McCullum bid adieu to international cricket today. 
Cricket fans across the world are going to miss him for sure, but today is also an occasion to celebrate his illustrious career and thank him for all the wonderful memories.

But I always wondered what is the exact meaning of "Cricket's greatest xyz". Does that mean there are so many xyz's and this particular one is the greatest? or simply xyz is one of the greatest cricketer?

renjith, thank you for your appreciation. 
There are many not so famous cricketers who share names with popular cricketers, like Tendulkar, Muralitharan, Younis Khan, Bradman, Ijaz Ahmed, G Sobers, etc. So using the word "Greatest" is basically an attempt to cover all the bases.

Nice video. His stats are not very impressive. He was very bad but played some good innings in the later part of his career. I don't know why he is called one of the greatest. Words like legend and greatest are thrown around for anybody who has a long career now a days

I agree with you he wasn't very consistent, but he did well in patches, especially in the last 2-3 years he did very well. And there's no doubt that he was a star player and an entertainer who had fan following across the cricket world. I also agree with your observation regarding the use of superlatives. If you pay attention, you will notice the title says, "Greatest Brendon McCullum," doesn't say he was the greatest cricketer.
