YCCC Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Definitely the best in the world across all formats. And I include Yorkshire's very own Joe Root and adopted Yorkie Kane in that. His record when chasing is simply phenomenal, and if I were a captain I'd bowl every time I won the toss against India, simply because of him Adi_91, WC2011INDIA and express bowling 3
Adi_91 Posted March 27, 2016 Posted March 27, 2016 Your thoughts on Root and Kohli as a player? The better batsmen.I love watching Joe Root in tests. I think that's where Kohli is still behind. In ODIs and T20s, it is hard to pick. Your thoughts?
YCCC Posted March 27, 2016 Author Posted March 27, 2016 I agree Root is marginally ahead in Tests. Kohli is different class in white ball cricket though. There's no doubt Root has all the shots in the book, but his limited overs opportunities are limited to England matches only. Whereas Kohli plays IPL and numerous limited overs matches for India. The way he deals with pressure situations and plays his natural game whatever is a wonder to behold. I'd love to see Root get the opportunity to play IPL, but the ECB really need to look at their scheduling. No Test matches should take place in May, to allow our best players to play IPL.

In hindsight, I wish Kohli scores heavily in test matches like Joe Root in all conditions. For now though, he will only play in India in tests and a bit in WI this year. But no challenging series. Still want to see him score well all over the world like great players do.I must admit, I thought Root is only good for tests. But, he is a very good LOI batsmen too. And now he is proving that in this World Twenty20.

He looks to be a better player from what I have seen and I don't really buy his performances so far. He is still less than 4 years into international cricket. So, only time will tell.
