CoverDrive Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 I think we have been overachieving in T20 in past few years compared to our ability. We have done well in past two cups due to brilliance of Kohli, smartness of Dhoni and effectiveness of spinners on these pitches. but this is not sustainable. To consistently do well we need a new blueprint. It depends on having game changing players. People who can hit big top of the order or down the order. Our 2007 success was driven by yuvraj who was master at hitting then and was easily clearing boundaries. while currently we don't seem to have guys caliber of Russell or Gayle we could push and develop players like Simmons, Jason Roy etc. Decent bats who are not afraid to hit out. We should be on lookout for guys like these. We will always have classically good batsman like Kohli , Rahane etc. coming in. Iyer is similar. Maybe some of good batsman can try to take up such roles. Pandey, Pandya etc. can do some bit of bashing. hoping for some guys to come up during this IPL diehardpacer 1
chewy Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 maybe let indian players to play in overseas T20 franchise leagues will help. Alot of the T20 non-Indian players play plenty t20 franchise cricket all over the world all year around hence more seasoned. look at Dwayne Bravo, in the last 12 months he has played IPL, England's T20, SA's Ram Slam, Aus's Big Bash, and Pak's PSL. That's alot T20 cricket where he can sharpen his skills, that's why he such effective bowler with his slow bowls. You have likes of Raina, Pandya, Bumrah who won't be playing Tests hence should be allowed to play overseas and same goes for others not in India international set-up...SK Yadav, Hooda, Utahappa, Yusuf Pathan (on top of my head) diehardpacer 1
kosingh Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 We have to do something different for sure. The change may or may not work, but the status quo is certainly not working.
Nova Posted April 1, 2016 Posted April 1, 2016 What happened to Rohit Sharma and Raina who used to hit big on their days. They were expected to give explosive starts.
