Quote Delhi police on Sunday arrested Aam Aadmi Party legislator from Okhla, Aamanatullah Khan, police said. “We have arrested the legislator on Sunday morning as the complainant again informed the police that he was threatening her and also trying to manipulate the evidences,” Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (South East) Rajeev Ranjan told reporters. “We will produce him in court on Sunday,” the officer added. A 35-year-old woman had filed a case against AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan on July 20 for allegedly threatening her with dire consequences. A case was registered against the legislator under Sections 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) at the Jamia Nagar police station in south Delhi, the officer said. On July 10, the complainant went to the residence of the AAP MLA in South Delhi’s Batla House locality after a telephonic conversation with him to complain about poor electricity supply in the area. One of Amanatullah Khan’s supporters present there allegedly abused the woman and threatened her with dire consequences, the woman said in her complaint. The complainant alleged that the supporter said he was abusing her on the “orders of Khan”. However, Khan stated that he was in Meerut on July 9 and 10, while his children were in Kashmir on a holiday when the incident was reported. Earlier, the Aam Aadmi Party had released video footage and a transcript of a conversation purportedly involving the complainant, where she is heard saying that ‘the SHO of Jamia Nagar police station asked her to add allegations of threats — on raping and killing her — in the FIR’.
