Maybe .But India still a heavily unregulated market so most of the TV income is mainly generated from Ad revenues I think.

Also unlike in UK, even in the DTH market neither Star or Sony directly provide subscription.The DTH market is heavily competitive so not sure how feasible it is for them to do it like Sky monopoly in UK.Remember all India limited over matches including World cup are telecasted live on DD as well which is free.

Even then completely agree more competition is better .But problem was till Sony made its entry in 2014 , Star had a monopoly on Indian sports .Ten Sports was a distant irrelevant second(banned from any BCCI rights bidding ) and the quality was generally awful.Now Sony is seriously challenging that monopoly of Star and general quality is also excellent .

Also wouldn't BCCI be against such a collusion?More bidding will allow BCCI to generate more revenue for their telecast rights .Collusion would surely bar any inflated bidding which would benefit BCCI?

can charge whatever they want for their channels, that day is not far away when we stop getting sports channels in total bundle and have to pay separate heavily priced sports pack like other countries.

That's what we are already getting sports channels in DTH isn't it ?

Makes IPL rights Bidding more interesting...will have to see if star will still go out and out for it.

So now Ten Sports will be deblacklisted from BCCI's list of channels. 

 

And the biggest joke is, once upon a time, Ten Sports and ESPN Star were the main rivals, now ESPN+SONY+TEN SPORTS collaboration is the main rival for Star Sports. Times have indeed changed.
