Now that Bhajji is in the team again...[Perth Team Selection thread]

As mentioned in another thread, this would be my team for the Perth game... Viru's in great form today. Hope he does a repeat of Boxing day '03! So, my XI for Perth is as follows: Viru Dravid Laxman Sachin Dada Karthik Dhoni Pathan/Pankaj (Today's the judgement day - not valid anymore..Pathan gets the nod.) Kumble RP Ishant Reasons as below... - Jaffer's 92 might be a touch hard for the team management to ignore. However, Lee seems to have found a chink in Jaffer's armour. So, his inclusion on the Perth pitch could well be fraught with high risk. - Sehwag had a decent little hit..not very convincing though. Nevertheless, if he comes good in the Perth game, India would be away in a canter. Better to risk playing Sehwag rather than Jaffer. If the risk comes off, the dividends will be spectacular. Viru's bowling will be very useful, in the likely absence of Bhajji. - Karthik seems to be in good form. Like Kumble, this guy's a fighter and does show admirable patience, when things are not going his way. But it's hard to fit him into the team. If sent up to open, the opening pair would be a brand new one on the toughest venue down under....hard call really. The other option would be to take Yuvi's place at No.6. - Pathan & Pankaj will have to compete for Bhajji's spot. Pankaj's performance today will be of particular interest. Given our batting troubles through this tour, Pathan's skills with the willow might well get him into the XI.

Team in Perth; Dada down with fever again The Indian team flew into the capital of Western Australia on Sunday afternoon with mixed feelings. Under pressure after losing the first two Tests, India must turn things around or face a wipeout in the series. It’s a tough ask for any team. For the Indian team to do it on a WACA wicket that promises tennis-ball-like bounce it will require a superhuman effort and there is no backing away from it. The Australians are not only talking about chin music to be orchestrated by their four fast bowlers, but are also looking at an early finish to the third Test here. It might all be very unnerving for the younger members of the Indian team. And there’s a wry smile on the faces of the senior pros, who have played here before. One of them, Sourav Ganguly, who was the skipper last time around, is again down with fever. Ganguly, who had collapsed due to the heat while batting in the second-innings at the MCG, was also down with fever before the Sydney Test. He did recover to play the second Test, but the fever returned in Canberra. He looked very ill on Sunday morning at the Sydney airport and the four-and-a-half-hour flight to Perth only worsened his condition. Sourav consulted a doctor soon after checking into the team hotel and will undergo a blood test on Monday. Tired after a long haul from Canberra to Perth via Sydney, the Indian players refrained from making a quick trip to the WACA ground. If the action on the field promises to be hot, the scene off it could also be rather spicy with all sorts of meetings and hearing in store. The lobby of the Hyatt Regency where the Indians are staying wore a busy look in the evening. Match Referee Mike Proctor was seen moving around aimlessly. Either people were too scared to talk to the former South African all-rounder or plain ignored him. ICC’s chief referee Ranjan Madugalle was also in the hotel somewhere, but away from the hustle and bustle. Madugalle apparently will play no role in Monday’s Level 3 hearing against Australian Brad Hogg. However, he has a bigger responsibility on his shoulders as he tries to broker peace between rival captains Kumble and Ricky Ponting. India’s would-be coach Gary Kirsten also arrived here on Saturday. It sure will be interesting to see what sort of advice he offers to the Indian players before they embark on a do-or-die mission. Umpire Billy Bowden, who has replaced Steve Bucknor, and Asad Rauf were seen having a chit-chat with spinner Harbhajan Singh, who is in the eye of the ‘racial’ storm. TOI this is not good sign for indian team bez rite now DADA very resposible for his position...the way he is batting looks like his life's best form he is having it....team india needs him badly for third test...

I don't believe it - people are actually asking for Dada to play only few months/a year ago he was a pariaha. :omg:
that implies we don't hate/support our cricketers without a reason. a year ago, ganguly was as good as bhajan with a bat. His so called "comeback" has been not only inspirational but truly an admirable one. I have never seen ganguly bat like this in his entire career. only thing that can serve justice to his invincible form is a 100 on Perth :D:yay::icflove:
