Agreed. We were in trouble when Dhoni walked out to the crease. His 200 changed the course of the match. Vijay and Pujara scored centuries in Hyderabad and rest of the batsmen couldnt contribute much. Pitches helped spinners as much as the pitches in the current series. The difference was just the performances. India batted much better there in comparison to what happened in this series.

It's a misconception that India has "always" done well on green pitches. India may have won isolated matches here or there (Headingley, one or two in SA, WACA) but have lost much more. Didn't we get bowled out for 66 and 100 in SA? Didn't we get white-washed in Eng in 2011 and 2014? Hell we were blanked 2-0 in NZ in 2003 when the greenest of green wkts were prepared. We still haven't won a series in SA and Aus and winning away from subcontinent (except WI) is still a big achievement. If we have "always done well" on green pitches then pray tell me how do we have such poor record away from sub-continent? Winning isolated games here and there every few years is not the definition of "always done well on green pitches".

 

Did u not get the point.Green pitches are lottery as are turners.How many green pitches we got on 2014 tour one we got we own at lords .Point being we can compete with this aus team on any track even on green pitch as their batting is exposed more when their is movement.Still I would expect India to beat AUS 9 times out of 10 on Turner as would aus be expected to win on a bouncy track with seam but the odd victory will always be there and it's a risk at start of series.

England and B'desh are no match for Aussie batting lineup on a flattish wkt. They have likes of Warner, Smith and company who will score 600+ nearly every time on flat wkts. Starc coming in at 9 is good enough to score a 100 and Hazlewwood at 11 is better than most of Test teams' no. 8 or 9. You are not going to win "Bat offs" against Aussies on a flattish wkt so you have to go with turning tracks.

 

Lol do u even watch test cricket do u even know India and England have the strongest lower order in last 2 years and aus have the weakest average of the lot.

The point is that if playing on green pitches was a "lottery" and we were so good at playing on green pitches as you claim, our record would've been way better than what it is. We have fared poorly most of the times on seaming/green pitches. A win here or there doesn't hide the fact we have been poor in those conditions. Barely a handful of wins on green pitches in our history doesn't make us "great" players on green pitches and neither does it prove that playing on such pitches is a "lottery".

I've seen enough to see likes of Starc smack bowlers around coming in at 9 and seeing us struggle to dismiss likes of Hazlewood. In Tests England has likes of James Anderson, Chris Broad lower down the order and no way is English batting lineup better than Aussie one in flat conditions.
