China and India have similar populations and access to resources. So why are India still a developing nation?

I have often pondered this question. Both mega countries with cheap labour, access to resources and favourable trading agreements. Yet, China has joined us as a First World country whilst india is still developing. Why is this?

On face value, India are more strategically placed between the East and West, have access to colonial trading partners and have plenty of nautical shipping routes. However India still lags behind China.

Interested in the reasons why...

India seem to like to take orders from others rather than expanding the nation themselves. That's why they have floundered since the British left and have played little brother to Pakistan until sanctions of the west destroyed Pakistan.

One of of my favourite non Bollywood movies of all time is the departed and there is a ripper quote from Jack Nicholas's character that goes:

I don't want to be a product of my environment. I want my environment to be a product of me. Years ago we had the church. That was only a way of saying - we had each other. The Knights of Columbus were real head-breakers; true guineas. They took over their piece of the city. Twenty years after an Irishman couldn't get a *ing job, we had the presidency. May he rest in peace. That's what the niggers don't realize. If I got one thing against the black chappies, it's this - no one gives it to you. You have to take it.

China's policy of not adopting a state religion.  One China policy under which the country operates - their's is not a purely democratic regime with state regulated media.

Lack of internal conflicts based upon religion , caste , state based politics.

Ruthless policies focusing on expnansion, economy and trade.

Utilizing their population extensively

nehrujis socialist policies did play a part but lets not forget China had more radical Communism for 40 years also yet they are more devloped than us. The difference is that the Chinese govt has shown to be ideologically driven at times and committed to do anything for the advancement of the nation. They dont tolerate communalism or excessive minority demands the nation is first. In India we let our minoritiea do things that undermine the nation i.e not enforcing uniform civil code. Its one party system has lended its nation more stability.

we are too soft n seek wests approval too much unlike China who dont care.
