can some one tell me why maharashtra and mumbai are 2 separate ranji teams .. anything got to do with their shoddy politics

I dont think its anything to do with politics, probably with the fact that Mumbai itself produced some quality cricketers to hold its own in a Domestic Competition, however probably a Historian like Salil could answer your query better. Some of the City, State Teams Mumbai, Maharashtra Hyderabad, Andhra Pradesh, Probably Telangana too. :hehe: Gujarat, Vadodara/Baroda, Saurashtra.

not telangana...the whole of the telangana region is part of the Hyderabad Ranji catchment area

2 states Maharshtra and Gujrat have got 6 associations playing Ranji Trophy . Gujrat has Baroda, Gujrat and Saurashtra, Mumbai , Maharashtra and Vidarbha are all part of Maharashtra. On the other hand Bihar doesnt have a proper representation neither do Chattisgarh/Uttarakhand.
