I don't think this is just about freedom of speech, people got tired of being politically correct and being very patient with things where the other side openly condemns the culture they mingle with and when you beep a cartoon show coz they received threats and then a artist is hit by violence. You expect the entire universe to buy the peace argument? no way - someone, somewhere will revolt and social media is the easiest and simplest way to do it with max exposure It's funny that a American woman who is probably from some suburb took 5 mins to create a fan page and it shook thousands who spent time creating placards and come on the streets with govt officials working to shut down a web page Pen Keyboard is mightier than the sword
Yes..Its very good that this happened. For far too long, people have being tip toeing around muslims lest their precious insecure feelings may get hurt. If nothing is done, soon the muslims will be killing babies who accidentally utter the word mohammed or something crazy like that.

But no, that didnt happen. They banned only BK ice cream swirls.

vah vah.... eitne bombings hote hai...koi protest nehi....but when it comes to drawing Muhammad..millions suddenly find brass balls to come out of their closets Fyi: that group/page whatever was started by a she not he
There are a lot of protests that happen in Pakistan whenever there are continuous bombings and a lot of people do protest against the Taliban as well. Go ahead and even try googling it, you'll find quite a few articles on such protests. I guess since bombings happen so frequent within Pak these days that protests in regard to that isntreally "news" anymore.

How Pakistani Taliban Is Like Facebook By Max Fisher on May 19, 2010 11:59am The Pakistani government's relationship with the country's various insurgent groups, sometimes described generally under the broad term "Taliban," is complicated. Pakistan actively fights some, turns a blind eye to others, and is often accused of secretly backing some groups. What's less complicated is the Pakistani government's relationship with Facebook: The social networking site was blocked nationwide on Wednesday because of a single Facebook group that invites users to submit humorous drawing of the prophet Mohammad, a violation of Islamic law. Nitin Pai, a prominent Indian journalist and blogger, takes the opportunity to compare and contrast. * What Facebook Can Learn From Name-Changing Insurgent Groups "Dear Facebook: if the Pakistani govt bans you, you only have to resurface under a new name." * Pakistan Tougher on Facebook Than Terrorist Associates "What's the difference between Facebook and [terrorist-associated group] Jamaat-ud-Dawa? Ans: Facebook is banned in Pakistan." * How Facebook Is Like Pakistani Terror Groups "What's common to Facebook and Lashkar-e-Taiba? Ans: They are both banned in Pakistan, but Pakistanis can still find them if they want to." * 'Good Facebook and Bad Facebook' Indian journalist Sidin Vadukut riffs off the oft-repeated claim that Pakistan can support certain insurgents because there is a "good" Taliban and a "bad" Taliban. He tweets, "Yes but why don't Pakistanis get that there is good Facebook and bad Facebook?" http://www.theatlanticwire.com/features/view/feature/How-Pakistani-Taliban-Is-Like-Facebook-1273

Pakistan blocks access to YouTube Pakistan has blocked access to the popular video sharing website YouTube. No official reason has been given for the move, but one internet service provider said it was aimed at containing "blasphemous" material. On Wednesday a Pakistani court ordered access to be barred to social networking site Facebook in a row over a competition involving caricatures of Prophet Muhammad. Latest reports say certain Wikipedia pages are also being blocked http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/south_asia/10130195.stm :cantstop::cantstop::cantstop: Why not just disconnect the internet cable? If your going to be offended so easily just stay off the internet. Soon its gonna be like China, residents in Pakistan will only be able to view what the government wants them to view.

Indeed. They should ban the whole internet, all foreign media. In fact they should also ban telecommunication as well to stop all anti-Islamic conversations. Letter writing should also be forbidden lest someone spreads the cartoons on postcards. Pakistani citizens should be asked to apply for a license to talk in public places with full description of the nature of the talk.
